For me, it was the only hw on the market that also covered whip worms. I had a foster once that we found after we adopted her she had them. Once they get into your yard theyare virtually impossible to get rid of so I always had my dogs on it.
That was my reason also, takes care of heartworm, Flea protection and whipworms. Here its the same price as heartguard

I also like Interceptor because of the whipworm coverage and I like the Interceptor Spectrum idea even more because of the added tapeworm coverage ... of course I may change my mind when I start using the Interceptor Spectrum, but right now I like the idea.

I don't "think" Interceptor/Interceptor Spectrum protects against fleas (Sentinel did).

Still have a little Interceptor left. Have to figure out what to do afterwards. I would go with the Sentinel but I already have flea protection from the Advantix. Would doing both be really bad? Hate to administer unnecessary chemicals but do not want ticks!!! They are everywhere around here.

Advantage Multi protects against whip worms (it's a topical HW preventative that covers whips, hooks, rounds, and of course FLEAS):

i use the virbac preventix collars for the tick control on my dogs. they are good for 3 months and work really well. i dont use anything for fleas.. i used to use interceptor but now have to find something else.. guess sentinal will have to be given a try

Doesn't Sentinel kill whip worms too? I am just concerned that both the HW preventative and the advantix kill fleas. That seems like a lot of flea control!

Sentinel IS Interceptor, with an added ingredient, Lufenuron. Lufenuron does not kill fleas. It keeps them from being able to reproduce.

Vetsmedsforpets.com was recommended to me by several members on this site. I buy Shasta's heartguard from them. She's been on it for going almost 3 years and has had a heartworm test done every 6 months and no heartworms and we live in areas pretty heavy with mosquitos. I'd say they're effective.
 FYI ... On May 1st I placed an order with Vet Meds for Pets for 2 boxes of Interceptor Spectrum and 4 boxes of Capstar. According to another post the orders are "drop shipped" from Australia. I got it on Friday, May 10, which IMHO is excellent service for an order from Australia (I get a lot of stuff from Pets Megastore).

:happyboogie: So you can call me a SATISFIED CUSTOMER ... THANK YOU KZoppa!!!

I spoke to my vet's office this morning.

They are recommending Sentinel for those who were using Interceptor.

She said we can continue to use the Vectra 3D flea and tick with the Sentinel, which also has flea birth control.

Apparently Novartis discontinued the Interceptor, and re-introduced Sentinel at Interceptor prices.

We just ordered Sentinel. Very excited to be off Trifexis. Sentinel has an awesome safety rating =)

But we need to use something for live flea/ticks on top of it and thinking of Adventix II

When I asked if using the Vectra 3D and the Sentinel would be too much flea control, she said you'd have to use 40 times the dosage for it to hurt the dog.

Neko - what made you change from Trifexis to Sentinel?
1. Trifexis is more expensive and very new (who knows what might come up)

2. He has been a bit itchy and I heard trifexis can do that (it states this on their brochure as well.

3. Sentinel is way cheaper

4. Sentinel has a very high safety rating, if a dog accidently got a hold of a 6mo pack. There is not enough chemical in it to harm the dog.

5. It can even be given to 2 week old puppies!

6. Our breeder has been using Sentinel for years. When it was on back order she tried Trifexis and had all her dogs react to it and very itchy. So they are back to Sentinel. (If Z's parents had a reaction, than he was probably itching because of it too).

7. Still like the pill form that protects from other things like worms. Z is a puppy and still vacuums everything.

8. Anyone I ever asked said Sentinel is a great product. I have Never heard anything bad. Our vet does not have it, but does like it and recommends it.

We just need an extra tick protection.
