All of the soft collars I've seen will not prevent the dog from reaching a rear leg.

 

I would think you would be stuck with a hard collar too. There are special Vetwraps coated with nasty tasting stuff, if you think you dog might leave a bandage alone.

 

I cheat... buy a large round plastic waste basket... cut a circle out of the bottom large enough for the dog's neck. Then split up one side of the basket. Put holes maybe 2" apart up eachside of that split. You can use shoestrings to lace up the split side. It should come about 1" beyond the end of the dog's nose. Take it off for them to eat/drink or when under close supervision, but put it back on when you can't be watching. Cheap and quickly replaced. Plastic paint buckets can also be used.

I don't trust him one bit.
We already had a set back with the healing when I placed in a confined room, spent the day trying to get out, bandage loosened, and surgical wound was open, another 200, for bandage change and a switch in antibiotics, ugggh.
