Does anyone know where I could find a dog barrier that goes just inside the tailgate area of an SUV (between the door and cargo area) so that when parked, I can open the tailgate door but my dog will still be contained inside? The only barriers I can find are the ones that go between the back seat and the cargo area, but that is not what I am looking for.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have tried googling and have been unlucky so far.

I do not know of any barriers like this. However, if you can find a barrier that goes in the cargo area behind the back seats maybe it would also fit just inside the back door? If not, maybe buy a big crate?

There is one other thing that might be useful... I have a device called a Vent Lock which is a sort of extended lock that you put in the tailgate or back door(s) of a minivan or SUV. The way it works is it has a short pole and it hooks into the locking mechanism of the door. When the Vent Lock is attached it keeps the rear door open. You can somewhat adjust how much it keeps the door open, and they also have different lengths to buy so that you can decide how large you want the opening to be. The end result is you lock the car and the Vent Lock cannot be removed, the door cannot be opened any further until you unlock and release it so the dogs can get a lot of air, but you can keep the opening narrow enough that they can't get out. I think I bought it from Clean Run http://www.cleanrun.com

Thanks, Chicagocanine for the link.

The thing is, I know I've seen one of these being used but it was several years ago. The nice thing about it was that it had a built-in door so that the whole thing stayed in place but you could still get your dog in and out without having to take down the whole barrier. I never thought I would have use for one until now; therefore, I never asked the person about it at the time.

I already keep him in a large-sized crate for travel/parking but it would be nice while parked at trials to let him have a little more room while just hanging out.

Thanks again, for your help.
