I've read some threads about how to teach your dog not to bark (bark collars, rattling at them, etc) but I don't want to teach her NOT to bark. She only barks when people are near my door at home or if someone comes in that she doesn't recognize. (Which is great! I want to know when people are near). The problem is, I want to teach her when it's okay to back down. Like "okay, I see your concern and why you are barking, but that person is OK" but not teach her to NOT bark at all.

I would suggest to teach her to bark on command and also to stop barking on command. These older threads explain how to do that:

Oddly, I don't have any issue with barking. My boy only barks for fun when my roommates and I race him down the hall and he's losing. Only then will he bark. Occasional bark when I tease him with food but he's a very quiet mouthed puppy.
I have a problem with him crying, however. He's always making these whines when people pet him. He LOVES other people and dogs but he always whines when around them. Almost like an over excitement and bundle of joy bursting out noise. People find it adorable, but I find it pretty annoying.
