Eye goobers causing raw skin?

This is really odd and if it weren't both eyes being affected, I wouldn't give much thought to it.

Banshee - 12 years old, thryoid, possible mast cell tumor

I cleaned away her eye goobers from the inside corner of her eyes and both eyes had a raw streak where the eye goobers were. It looks like something just peeled her skin away and there was blood on the tissue.

Has anyone ever experienced this?

I see it all the time, when dogs have chronically runny, goobery eyes. The constant moisture creates a breeding ground for bacteria, and so the skin gets red and raw underneath. Keep the eyes clean and dry, and apply a bit of opthalmic antibiotic, if you have it, to the raw area. Or use a bit of hydrogen peroxide, colloidal silver, or other non-stinging antiseptic on a cotton ball and gently dab the sores with it. Do this daily until you see the skin healing. Usually, once the goobers are gone and the eye area is kept clean, this clears up fairly quickly.
