Ever heard about how stuff comes in 3s?

We saw the vet Monday for his weird pee incident. He has a clean bill of health. I think I can justify in my mind why it would have been behavioral. I'll be watching him and revisit the vet if things seem off. Couple weeks ago it was x-rays for something else.

Now today we were reckless in the woods with a ball. He has split/cut his carpal pad. It's from the outside about center in towards his leg.

I don't want to go to the vet again 😫

It never ceases to amaze me how tuff these dogs are. He didn't slow at all when it happened. I only knew from the blood. He is such a good dog. The bleeding stopped quickly and bled very little between bandage changes. He let me wash it out twice now. I have good dog bandage wraps. I sprayed it with Bactine and covered the wrap with Bacitracin.

I'm watching him like a hawk and he leaves it alone with few reminders.

I am worried about what he might do while I sleep. I have pain meds they gave me from the cough he had. I thought maybe one before bed.

Should i go to the vet again?

Any insight on the healing process?

I was going to read about mushers secret (I think its called) and New skin.

Ozzy cut his pad once. It was deep so took him to er vet, of course it was Sat eve. Vet stitched it up and 2 days later stitches fell out. I just put antibiotic ointment and cleaned each day eith peroxide wrapped it up good with Coban and a bag over it when it rained. Took 4 weeks plus before it healed.
So my opinion just do what I did and I would not do stitches. Pads heal very slowly

Thank you.
Coban is good stuff to always have on hand. I have a good leg wrap/bandage. Should probably resupply. I'm hoping for a faster heal sense it's not the foot pad. I can't imagine how difficult that could be to manage.

Super weird I know but I love the earthy smell of dog feet. I've heard it compared to the smell of fritos.
Other than smell or puss not sure what else to watch for with infection.
I'm pretty good at taking care of most things on my own. When in doubt I usually see a vet.
I wasn't sure when/if stitches would be necessary or required.

Thank you

Stiches are based on how deep and if the wound is staying closed or open like a fileted shrimp.

But I have many years of being stitched up myself and I only go for stiches if it will require more than 7 and butterflies and super glue won't hold it together.

So if in doubt, wip out the credit card and go see a vet.

My girl Penny has cut her pad open pretty badly before, the main foot pad, may I add.
We have an animal first aid kit on hand and I just rinsed it with Saline solution and sprayed it with Vetericyn, wrapped it with gauze and vet tape and kept her off her feet too much (although she did do a good bit of running....such a tough dog, and a tough bandage if I do say so myself, lol) and she healed quite fast.

Just made sure to change it frequently and check for nasty smells of infection or lots of swelling, most people would've gone to the vet but we've always been on the more diy side, stitches wouldve been useless in her case, and the vet probably wouldve done the same.

I personally would treat at home, but when in doubt always go to the vet.
