English is such a messed up language, with so many rules, and so many exceptions to the rules, I was wondering if we could have a thread for whenever we see a word (having to do with dogs) abused we can add it to the list.

Spayed -- the past tense of the verb to spay. It is not spade, or spaded -- which I often hear when people talk about it.

Conformation -- how well a dog conforms to the standard, think conform.

I was really proud of that wagon. It has knobbies because the vet's parking lot is gravel. It had to be skinny because I had to be able to get it through the door way and then around the counter and into the exam room without it getting stuck, and it had to be tall enough that the buggers could not climb out, and short enough so that even six inches off the ground (due to the knobbies) I could still bend over the side and pick up a squirmy pup:

I swear I provide my vet's office with plenty to talk about if nothing else.

As well you should be proud of that wagon. That's the coolest thing ever!

Well, other than Alice getting snotty with Zoey the other night and Franny the cat jumped out from behind a corner and whomped her (Alice) That was pretty cool/funny too.

The cat is probably a terror/tortie mix.

Golden Labs
Miniature Doberman Pinchers
Miniature Collies

.....and I was told they weren't high breads, though a few had bad temperment because they were too highly bred.

The best, though, was when my nephew (then five years old) told me he met a "really huge dog.... it was called a GREAT DANG!" I admit, I've called them that ever since.

Working with police dogs I hear a lot of;

I have a dog just like that, only mine is bigger
Is that a malomar?
Is that a K9 dog - I usually answer that with:"it would kind of have to be, don't ya think?
My favorite is: Is that one of those lavatory recievers?

Chicagocanine, thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Another one is "Golden Lab" unless you're talking about a Golden/Lab mix, it is either a Golden Retriever of a yellow Lab and when people say "Golden Lab" I don't know which breed they are referring to!
I HATE this! Makes my teeth ache, I tell you!
My other half is one of the biggest offenders of this...he used the term "golden lab" the other night at work and I had three yellow labs and one golden retriever...I had to go out and look to see which dog he was talking about. I am not optimistic that he will ever change.

You folks will probably read about me in News of The Weird.
