my 7 month old pit bull ate my leater belt about 10 days ago, 32 inches long and left only the buckel. we havent seen anything pass through her but she has not ate or drank since saturday and last night started throwing up and diarrhea and is very lethargic... what do i do for her
(we just realized today it was the belt making her this way because a piece of belt about 4 inches long came up when she vomitted earlier)

this is a german shepherd forum but your dog sounds like he/she has a blockage which needs to b treated by a vet. it would require surgery to remove the blockage. throwing up generally means nothing is going through and the diarrhea is a result of her body trying to fix the issue and not working. your should have taken your dog to the vet immediately when they refused to eat or drink and is now lethargic. THIS CAN KILL YOUR DOG IF NOT TREATED IMMEDIATELY! get to an Emergency vet NOW or your dog may not make it much longer. its very possible that having waited so long as well, that your dog could die regardless of whether they get surgery or not due to swelling of the intestines which eventually restricts blood flow killing the intestine.

should also point out that your dog is also becoming VERY dehydrated which can kill as well. PLEASE get your dog to an emergency vet NOW before its too late.

Load her in the car and pray she survives the ride to the vet RIGHT NOW and and maybe a surgery to remove the belt.

 sorry im sure your not going to like my attitude but **** thats just ridiculous!
ignorance is bliss but not when it means an animal is suffering..

so you thought nothing of it to eat the belt? (sure dogs can eat stuff and it goes straight thru) but id be abit iffy with a belt :/..then when its off its food and drink you didnt think something was wrong?..you wait till days later when its spewing and diarrhea (stll not doing anything about it) and ONLY when the belt comes up you realise??? and you STILL havent gotten your ass in the car and taken it to the vet by now???

maybe you dont care about your animal as much as anyone else who would do somehting about it straight away or maybe you just dont have much of a clue..

so shoot me for this comment if you will but im not gonna shut my mouth when it just seems like stupidity.

This is terrible!

How could you not think something is wrong?!

That poor puppy! I hope it survives!

Maybe you should give the puppy to someone that will actually take care of it?

Has to be a troll. Nobody can be that stupid, at least I hope not.

Total troll. There's something about that user name as well, I don't know what, but it'll come to me.

Also, my wife tells me that I'm "that" stupid all the time.

Lots of dogs eat lots of crazy stuff and end up being just fine.
No vet is going to open up a dog just because he ate a belt...

.... but now that the dog is showing symptoms, it is imperative to get treatment.
The longer you wait, the more likely the bowels will be damaged, perhaps irreversibly.

things my GSD ate, bandages, rubber ball, plastic muzzle (strap, rivits etc), kong bone, rocks, stitches and more. Anytime your dog eats anything other than its food, call your vet. I hear thet sugarfree gum is a killer!

THIS POOR DOG NEEDS MEDICAL ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY. As soon as she ate the belt, and you realized it, you should have taken your dog straight to the vet. The belt is obstructing her intestines, could have wrapped around them, and she will surely die if you don't get her treatment. It is NOT going to pass on it's own. If you don't take her to the vet right away, you are accountable for this dogs death.

The moment you realized the dog ate the belt you should have taken the dog to the vet . Immediately . What is with the casual attitude. That belt is going to absorb moisture , swell, saponify, kill tissue and poison the dog !!
Gagsd I am surprised by your comment . What do you mean no vet is going to open up a dog just because he ate a belt !!!!!!! What . The responsible thing to do is owner takes dog to vet. Vet takes a X RAY to verify , and then a decision is made based on that . This belt is not going to be digested and move along out the other end.

okay - someone tell me what is a troll ? (not the under the bridge type).

Still upset , if I went to my vet and said I think my dog ate - a towel, a belt, a running shoe - whatever I would expect him to x ray the dog , even if his only interest is in holding on to his licence to practice and not get sued by sending me home with a there there. Err on the side of precaution. I am the last to go running to the vet but there are some situations where to not go is not responsible ownership.
