Did you take it in and get it serviced? The girl I work with did that for $40, Sears cleaned it up and it runs like new again.

I've been thinking I need to do that, because I don't want to have to replace it. I had mostly pergo floors in the house I just moved out of, so I hadn't really used it for the last year. Once I started using it in the new house, I realized it's not doing so good now.
Hopefully, they can get it back to working well.

I believe I have the dyson dc24 and it works marvelously and I love it. Used a friend's for half a year on my house before buying one myself.

I currently have the Dyson Animal D17. My ex & I bought it after breaking several vacuums with three dogs & three cats.

It did really well for a while, but not so much the past year. Of course its now just past the 5yr warranty. I'm not spending that kind of money on a vacuum again though.
Have you cleaned the filters? Checked the roller for strings and carpet strands? Usually when mine starts losing performance I do these two things and it runs like new again.

I'll have to check the filter. I have checked the roller for strings/hair & such.

Do any of you use a vacuum on your hardwood floors? If you do does it work better for the hair than sweeping? What vacuums do you use for hard floors (if you use one)?

I use my dyson ball (dc24?) for my hardwood floors.. Works SO much better than sweeping with a broom. Grabs everything! :D

The filter is supposed to be cleaned every few months. I think it says 6 but with several large dogs I do it every 3 or so. You just rinse it with warm water until it comes through clear and then let it sit out and dry overnight (or I put it in the sun). I've noticed the suction really improves after I clean the filter, and the vacuum doesn't smell like dog.

I'll admit, I haven't been good about that. I do think it needs to be serviced as well, the hose part doesn't work, it's clogged or something. I've been afraid to tackle that myself & make it worse.

The bad thing about sweeping....small pieces of hair fly up in the air, so after you are finished sweeping....if you look, there is hair on the floor again.:D

I do have one of those push micro-sweepers. I just walk around in the morning and push all the hair in a pile. Then I Dyson it up.

My Dyson also has a red reset button by the roller. If it's not picking something up....I can usually push that (after cleaning the roller) and it works fine again.

i love love love love my dyson :D and we have the groom attachment which i love love love too... we did a test (i had a Bissell pet) vacuumed with that, then re vacuumed with the dyson. holy moly!!! im never looking back. it looked like i never vacuumed before!

Another Dyson fan here. Went through 4 vacuums, before I finally gave in, and I love it. It's a little beast when it comes to sucking up all the fur and I use the attachments a lot. I got mine off QVC and used the easy pay.

I bought a Shark about 6 months ago and love it. It got a lot of dog hair out of my carpet that my previous vacuum left.

I'm in the process of looking for a good vacuum to. I was looking at the reviews and the Shark was considered comparable to Dyson, but half the price. I already have my pet hair attachment, I'm just waiting for that right vacuum to come along:)

Yeah really for the price it better be something great. I will probably end up breaking down and buying either a Dyson or a really good Bissell. The vacums that I have purchased before are more for a light traffic household.

I've been using a Shark Navigator for about a year and a half. Yes, the cord is slightly shorter than I would like, and the canister a bit small and of an awkward design for emptying, but it's very light weight, turns on a dime and does a great job of picking up dog hair and dirt, both from the carpet and my hard surface floors. At a fraction of the price of a Dyson. We're thinking about getting a second one to keep downstairs.

I check the beater bar for hair after every use. Even Shasta's hair is long enough to wrap around the bar.

Dyson it's the only way to go. I went throw too many cheap vacuums before. They never could get the sand out of the carpet. I have had my Dyson animal for 5 years and it's still going strong and I use it about everyday. I love it.

I have 3 dogs and a 3 year old dirt loving daughter. I will never be with out my Dyson. I also shampoo my carpets almost every month because we have a lot on constant in and out. I use the Hoover Max extract. It has the moving scrub bar. I love that thing.
