I had my boxer SD for 6 years and had a few times where strangers wanted to command my SD to do things for them. This irritated the **** out of me. So now that I am getting a GSD puppy I have considered using another language for voice commands. I know that Dutch is used with most police and military dogs and I am not interested in using Dutch.

I was thinking Japanese as I studied Japanese in College and was able to live in Japan for awhile. Also thought of using German. Since my GSD is of the Czech working line I thought of using Czech.

Has anyone else trained there GSD with another language? I might be over thinking but just hate when others want to ask my dog to obey their commands. Odin my Boxer would only look at me and stay at my side.

I use very bad language if my Puppy is very naughty, which thankfully isn't often.
Swearing makes me feel better and she understands .

I've tried French ,NZ, some Sanskrit and the US Southern Drawl, but none of those seem to work .

German, with a very exaggerated accent like the one belonging to Heimlich the caterpillar from A Bug's Life. It usually proceeds something joyous, like treats or a meal.

 

German, Turkish, French, Dutch and Spanish. If you want to really have fun with people remember the actual words don't matter.

 

We have a variety of commands trained in both traditional german phrasing as well as an English variation. Certain commands are also based off of things we were into when Rosie first came home. It’s not as if we’ve got words or commands from Star Trek: The Next Generation 😜😂🌞 being said in our home every day

 

A mixture of Welsh, French, German, Czech and Latin.

 

My dog has been spoken to by different people in English, German, Hindi, Tamil, Bengali as well as a variety of made up words.

I sometimes speak with Michael Ellis’ accent.

I also like to imagine my dog replying back to everything I’m saying as well as him generally commenting on stuff. He’s so polite and good natured.

I have used french and english - for no reason other than I'm fluently bilingual and it comes naturally!

 

I just use English and German.

Frankly, unless there is a treat or ball in the strangers hands, my dogs just look at me like "are you seeing this clown, too?".

The problem isn't the language - it's the entitlement others feel to boss our dogs around and maul them with furbaby kisses.

 

Mandarin

Spanglish. I spent enough time in Mexico to constantly forget words in either English or Spanish and use a horrible mishmash of Spanglish instead.

 

I was born and raised in Japan as a Navy brat, so Japanese is as second nature to me as tying my shoes. This makes a good training and communication language that fewer people understand or can duplicate. It has been totally successful for me.

 

I am a Navy Veteran. Loved being in Japan. I am naming my puppy Hanzo after Hattori Hanzo from the 16th century Samurai.

 

Most people are unfamiliar with Klingon...

 

Oh that's a good one! I've been pondering ways of incorporating a different language into training my rescue.

two different issues here….. to answer your question, Italian, but i rather just advocate and ask people not to give my dogs commands. it doesn’t happen often.

 

I use primarily English with Nadja with a few German commands but I also know all the commands used in IGP in German, Belgian, French, Czech, Dutch, and Hungarian.

 

We use English and German and sometimes Mom Face.

 

I used hand signals with my first german shepherd Tessa. I could chat with a friend and signal my dog to heel, without breaking the flow of conversation. And I could non-verbally yell at Nitro, using only my body language

 

German here mostly

The only other thing is I do cross English and handsignals. Especially when she goes to the vet I want to make sure when they take her she can follow through on their requests for her safety!

 

Russian.
