I have a 13 week old GSD, and I am always outside with her. However, everytime a certain person passes my fence he stomps at her or kicks my fence! I have asked him to stop but he wont and I am seriously getting on my last nerve. My dog is my baby, and nobody will mess with her! Anyways, she isnt afraid of strangers actually she loves people, dogs, and cats! But when she gets older will she be more than likely aggressive towards this person?

I am no expert, but I consider that teasing the dog, and yes it will cause a negative reaction in the long run. I have called people out several times and told them to not tease my dog, some people are just lacking in the smart dept. if you know what I mean.

That might be considered harassment. Have you spoken to your local police? yes, she may develop a hatred for this person.

ETA: I like the video taping idea. And I would let him know he's being videotaped to turn it over to the police. You can NOT video tape someone without their knowledge for legal purposes.

Make sure you are very aware of this person. Not everyone likes dogs like we do on this forum. Never leave your dog unattended out there. You never know what runs through the minds of people. Is this person older? or a kid? If older it might take a call to authorities about harassment. If a young kid, it just might take a talking to the persons parents.

He is older & I am always out there with her! Were always doing something outside but what I dont get is my dog doesnt even bark at him. However she is starting to get to the barking stage but be does it for no reason! Will her protective instincts start to kick in real soon? Maybe if she is aggressive towards him it'll make him think twice.

when he kicks the fence i would use that time to teach my dog
to ignore him. when it comes to protection i think we should
protect our dogs. whatever it is i want protection from i want my
dog protected from it also. make a video and give it to the police.
an older person kicking your fence, what are you going to do?
you shouldn't get physical with him, he's old. keep an eye on your dog
as you're doing. when you see him coming call your dog.

I don't know if different cities in WV have different laws, but the local police told me that I could video my property any time that I wanted and if someone off the property happened to be in it, I was legal in what I was doing.

I do not sneak to video someone if I think that I need something on tape for any reason, I take the video right in front of their face. You are doing a video of your dog in it's yard and you have every right to do so. A neighbor called the police on me, and reported that I was tapeing her children. The officer asked me if I was, and I said yes, for the reason that they were pushing a grocery cart into my fence where my dog was. He told that parent as long as I was tapeing my dog and my yard, I had the right. He also told her that my property was posted and if her kids were to come into my yard they would be charged with crimmanal trespass.

Good luck, you may want to ask a law enforcement officer about your situation and see what your options are.

Yes, your dog will most likely become highly aggressive towards this person. I have that same situation -- a neighbor used to call our house from his cell in our front yard, while snarling, barking and harrassing our dog. When I became aware of it, and flew out the front door after him, he no longer does this. He's a complete idiot.

BUT -- she knows. And she knows when he steps out of his front door, she absolutely hates this man -- and I don't blame her. She will never get over that, ever. He knows it too.

I agree to video tape it -- and take a copy to the police department and file charges for harrassement. I'm not sure what the laws allow for, but the police can at least talk to him. If they will allow a restraining order to keep him xxx feet from your property, do that too.

It very well may get worse as your dog ages, if he is allowed to keep doing this to her. And you don't know how far he will go with his treatment of her. If you can stop it with police report, I would.

I would not even let your dog out without patrolling the yard. A person like this could put out poison. Yes I had a dog who LOVED kids except for one and I never understood until I caught the kid teasing him. This particular kid was never bitten by mine but had been by several and his father really complained to us about our "aggressive" dog and they have a LONG memory.

I agree with videotaping it.

The problem is that your dog could become aggressive towards ANYONE walking by your fence. And that is something you DO NOT want to happen.

Get signs like this and put them up on your fence:

As far as the "protective instincts", those will not kick in until the dog is mature - at LEAST over 8 months or so.

You cannot expect a 'baby' (which is what your puppy is now) to know when to be protective. It's YOUR job to protect them!

This is an easy one. I like the sign idea just posted.

Aside from that, file a police report immediately. Get a video if possible, rent a video camera if you have to. And call the police each and every time this happens.

It's ridiculous. No one has a right to harrass and taunt you or your pets in your own yard and home. I wouldn't tolerate it for one second.

Stand up for your dog, and yourself.

We have two rescued dogs who stay outside bc they habe been outside all their life. I went outside with my GSD & forgot something. So I opened my front door stepped in my house and grabbed someting briefly & by the time I got back out someone had opened my gate let ALL 3 of my dogs out & had my pitbull! I am seriously thinking someone is trying to harrass me!

Who are you saying is old? If you think that old men can't be a threat, you need to read the news. The creep that killed a bus driver and is holding a special needs 5 year old hostage is an old man. Yes, if a threat is needed to be met with the threat of force to make it stop then that's what it takes. Unless, of course, you can get this harassing creep to go train and socialize himself.

First, no one said it was an old man. Someone asked if it was a kid or an older person. The answer was older. Second, if someone's young enough to do what he's doing, he's young enough to reap the consequences. Third, I didn't say bash his head in. I said I'd have a bat. The threat 'should' be enough.

I guess in that mythical scenario, we'd find out who's faster. No, bats are for baseball. Why do you want to argue this to death? Do you think I'd change my mind about how *I* would handle it? I wouldn't. I've had to deal with people harassing my dogs before. Never got to the point of having to grab a bat or any type of weapon. I did threaten to flip my bitch over the fence once, though. That was the last time that person ever harassed my dogs.

It's the "old man" reference... that you seem to think that older men should be given some pass because of their age. They're perfectly capable of doing serious harm. THAT was my point. When working as an RN, I dealt with a decent amount of older men. Some were VERY strong, able to overpower a much younger person. I don't think age has much to do with it.

Also, it's NOT just kicking a fence. It's mentally messing up a creature that someone paid (probably) a decent amount of good money for, money to care for it, raise it, and loves it. So then you spend years and lots more money for trainers hoping to undo the damage? No. It's more than just kicking a fence.

I would get the police involved pronto, my boy was harassed at his old house people throwing rocks kicking their fence the people were on bikes and now he HATES bites. We are working through it though.

It takes awhile to get over that, too. Teens behind us started throwing huge branches, etc. over the fence at Grim before we moved. I went and chewed them out. Asked them if they had over a thousand dollars to pay for him if they killed him, and told them I'd be taking it out of their hide if they didn't. I was SO glad to move!!
