Re: Harlan, KY: Handsome Black & Red "Max"

Currently no transports to those areas. Alas. There was a rescue that wanted him when he was first posted but we didn't have transport up there. If there's a group interested again, someone would, of course, be more than welcome to organize their own - we have no objections to him going that direction! But it's not something we've got lined up unfortunately.

Re: Harlan, KY: Handsome Black & Red "Max"

Is the main hiccup transport or is it foster or rescue? Sorry, I am getting confused here ...

He is just too gorgeous to be sitting in a kennel getting stressed out

Re: Harlan, KY: Handsome Black & Red "Max"

Don't forget that this guy is not neutered. So the temp testing and his hackles going up during the one intro with the rotti may not be so much of an issue. Once neutered he may simmer down a bit around male dogs as well.

Re: Harlan, KY: Handsome Black & Red "Max"

Definitely! I thought he did very well considering it was two unneutered males and that Max hasn't exactly had a great or full life thusfar. Also they were both on leash which tends to jack up the anxiety somewhat but there wasn't any other safe way to test them.

In answer to the other person's question - no, HW status is not known. There is no vetting available at the shelter. HW is not all that common in that area though. Not like GA, SC, NC, or TN anyway. I'd say we only see it in maybe 5% of the dogs we pull and nearly all of them have lived their lives outside.

Re: Harlan, KY: Handsome Black & Red "Max"

I have a foster home who can take him. She has a cat and a female GSD that is very playful. The problem is we are in the IA/IL area which is a whole day away. He would be fostered in Davenport, IA.

How do you go about getting a health certificate and any shots on board? We don't normally take dogs this far from us so I am going to need a lot of transport help to pull this off.

Re: Harlan, KY: Handsome Black & Red "Max"

If there's a transport coming up toward WI, I can get him on his way to Davenport. (I volunteer with Norma). The only days I can't do it are this Fri-Sat. I'm near the WI/IL border.

Re: Harlan, KY: Handsome Black & Red "Max"

I left a message with Melissa but I just found out there are 2 or 3 dogs waiting to come into our IA foster homes, so I may have spoken prematurely on this one. I will know more tomorrow.

This particular foster home won't be back in town until Sat afternoon. I have to check on cats for the other dogs waiting first.

Re: Harlan, KY: Handsome Black & Red "Max"

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. I had posted him here like you asked me to. Hard to believe such a well-bred GSD is still there.

Big Bump!!!
