Hi everyone I was thinking of giving my seven-month-old male salmon oil capsules as i heard is very good for skin and health as well as for my cat. Have any of you tried it before, how much should I give him and do I have to buy at a pet store? I have a friend that has a store with all natural products and she has salmon oil so I was thinking instead of going to a pet store to buy it from her as i am 100% sure that it's pure salmon oil.

If you can, I actually highly recommend looking into Sh-emp Oil by Feedsentials. You have to be careful with purchasing fish oils, as you've mentioned. Not all are made equal, and depending on where it is sourced from it may not be all that beneficial.

You can also buy a human-grade supplement--it doesn't have to be fish oil marketed for pets. Don't buy into the 100% salmon oil hype -- sardines, anchovy, herring are rich sources, and lower on the food chain (= less concentration of toxins). In fact, farmed salmon is frequently filthy and polluted.

There are some test results on popular brands here:

A friend of mine is a naturopathic, Canadian M.D. and recommended this for my dog, which is a human product: https://www.newchapter.com/products/fish-oil/wholemega-whole-fish-oil/#product-video

https://www.amazon.com/New-Chapter-Fish-Oil-Supplement/dp/B002FU6I9K?th=1

If you compare this product to other human products, you will notice that the DHA, EPA, etc. individual components are not as high as some other human grade oils, for example Carlson oils which are also outstanding: Carlson Labs | Award-Winning Omega-3s - Carlson Labs

New Chapter believes that by leaving the fish oil in its natural state, and not extracting the individual components, the body more easily recognizes and absorbs the oil as a whole. To me, this is akin to eating the entire fish in its original state, i.e., feeding sardines, etc., whole - the dog will more readily use all of the nutritional value because their body "recognizes" the food itself.

I forgot about NutriSea which is another outstanding product: https://www.nutrasea.ca/product-info/pets/canine-omega3/

They make a "regular" and a "HP" (high potency) variety as well a one with Vitamin D.

To your original question as to how much to give? I'd give a puppy one capsule per day and an adult two capsules. I think that would be plenty as these are quality products!

My GSD puppy was having such terrible dry skin issues that he was always itching and started losing hair. I started giving him some fish- a can of kippers every other day- and I never see him itching now! It was amazing the results!
But I agree with everyone else here, be careful what you choose as a lot of fish can contain mercury which could do more harm than good.
