To those "people" who dump off puppies in the dead of winter in 15f weather with 10inchs of snow on the ground. Your really sick. To those who do that but dump them on a HIGHWAY , There is a special place for people like you.

Sunday our car had a random flat tire. We where really upset because we just PUT new tires on our car before the weather turned bad. My husband and I where being very peevish towards the Company who put the tires on. Neither of us could grasp why this had to happen on the busiest highway in our area but worse was it was out in the middle of no where. My mother raised us to be able to accept the fact everything happens for a reason. I believe that more so after Sunday then ever before. As we sat on the side of the highway, A big red dodge truck drives by at roughly 40 mph and out of no where this horrible human being shoved a dog out the window.

Now my husband and I where on our way to the City to look at buying a Blue Pitbull to take the place of my babygirl who died in 2009. Well we never made it into the city but I left with a Dog & A random 742$ ER vet bill . We are now the proud owner of a 3 month old Black German Shepherd that we named Reno. Reno tho he had a broken collar bone and road rash, he laid in my lap wagging is tail & trying to nuzzle the children in the backset.

We have posted " Wanted" signs in every store & vet office with description of the truck & offering a 1000$ reward for any information leading to the original owners of Reno.

As it now stands tho Reno is one of the smartest & sweetest pups I have had tho he is no replacement for my babygirl Missy, He is truly a rock star . :)

Good for you! I got my first German Shepherd in a similar way, she was dumped. He looks beautiful, I think you'll really enjoy him. Can you post more photos? He looked like a purebred long-hair GSD in the first photo, but since he's still just a pup, there's a tiny (very tiny) chance he could be a type of Belgian Shepherd called Groenendael. Probably not, and it doesn't matter except that it might give you a bit more insight on breed traits.

These are the best out of 50 I took. He likes to stand between my legs at all times or stays sitting under my chair. So photos are a "fun" thing to do.

I also think he's purebred long coat. Though there's no way to know for sure with a puppy, they can always change.

Long coat is a recessive gene, not too unusual in german shepherds. And solid black isn't either. Here is an example of an adult LC solid black (from google):

All I know for sure is his a doll pure or not his the loverboy I never knew I wanted. lol I have always disliked male dogs and had the typical Pitbull owner mentality that " Its Pits or Nothing Else". I have to say his truly a keeper. My sister Mother In Law used to breed German Shepherds and I disliked them as a kid because her's where really aggressive, to the point they would kill their own pups & litter mates. But Reno, his one of those you just fall in love with.

They did shave the underside along where the collar was, You can see it in one of the photos , His neck is still swollen really good from it. There is also no treatment for the other. Looking at the paper work it's called " Claviclular Fractures" .The Er Vet said there is no treatment for it, Just to leave it as is & give medication to ease pain & slow his movement down as much as I could.

My mouth is on the floor. I can't believe it, so shocked!!! What kind of evil would do something like this to that innocent pup. Evil friggin people!! I hope they... *calm down Barbie* never mind. Ughhhh oh my GOD I hope you get some leads from your wanted signs!,! These people should payyy!

On a happier note, I am glad the dog literally fell into your laps and now you all have a new happy family member. The pup is so lucky to have been found by you all, you seem to be really caring people. You all are heroes!

I hope we do too, I don't like injustice and given my field of work I see it to often. It leaves this horrible bitter taste in your mouth when you see the insanity human's leave in their path.

OMD (oh my doG) what a gorgeous pup!

I am owned by a black long coated GSD and she is a stunner. People tell us how beautiful she is every time we are out with her. And then they always ask "What kind of dog is that?".

If we put this beautiful baby boy up on our web site for adoption, people would be fighting over him.

Things happen for a reason and he is one lucky little fellow that he came out of a horrible situation to land up in your home.

Heartfelt congratulations and may you have many happy, healthy years together!

Thank you, We think his pretty spiffy too! Now if only we could snap our fingers and have him stop trying to hunt the counters for food.lol

Is it broken or cracked? You might need to keep him on a leash so he's not overdoing it and crated when you can't have him leashed. I would think he needs strict crate rest for the next 4-6 weeks to have that bone heal properly. That's what the ortho had us do for a broken leg.

The vet said broken but I got to looking at all the paper work last night and on the recite its labeled "clavicular fracture" . So now I don't know if it is broke or simply fractured . I do however know my Normal vet will tell me more tomorrow, Thankfully our local vet is one to move appointments round to get you in . That ER vet was a real piece of work. They made us put down a 450$ deposit before even letting us in the front door with Reno. The whole time the snotty attitude of " I'm really doing you a favor here" about choked me out. The first two days he limped really bad on it and whined alot . But Starting yesterday morning the limping is barely visible and now he only whines if you poke it or if he lifts it up to high.

The clavicle is a small bone, no way to really wrap or support it and no major need to for a minor fracture. Withholding pain meds to keep animals from further injuring themselves is an outdated thought process that luckily most vets no longer follow. Keeping a dog immobile by making it too painful to walk isn't really the shining picture of "humane" care, IMHO.

Owners need to confine animals with fractures and other limb injuries, through the use of crates and leashes and even mild oral sedatives if need be, there are many like trazadone and acepromazine that are commonly used and safe.

At my full time job, we provide estimates but only require deposits if owners leave the animals, which is the low end of the estimate. I work in a very well off area where people almost always pay their bills so it's not a huge concern.

My part time job, however, is an emergency clinic in a poorer area where people DON'T have money and commonly DON'T pay their bills. You have plenty of people that tell you to do everything during an emergency, but then when you give them the bill they suddenly don't have the money.

There we require a 500$ deposit before starting work on any emergency, outside of critical CPRs that we need to start on right away.

It's not about acting "better than you". But it IS about making sure we get paid. I guarantee no one else on here likes to work for free. I sure dont. And my doctor has a quarter of a MILLION dollars in student loan debts from vet school, so people can pay 500$ when their animal needs it, I feel like, if they truly have the money to afford the care.

Actually I do. :) I work full time for Mommies Of Pontotoc County where I do family counselling. At MOPC we help family's find housing, jobs and provide free daycare for those who are job hunting. MOPC has its own private cloths closet we have set up use of the community based upon need's. I also work along with Oklahoma Family network as a sponsor parent for clients who are dealing with their children who are in the foster care system. We attend court with them, Make weekly check ups on them, offer 24 hour support & Buffer between the parents and the State Case worker's. There are times I drive up to 6 hours away to speak at an assemblies & events. On average I work 60 hours a week to better our community & state all the while I make no income. I love what I do and I am beyond blessed to have a husband who appreciates my goals for a better tomorrow & Is easily able to make up my would be income.

I'd also considering backing off the pain meds if he's being too active. When my Tessa broke her leg, I had to back off on the pain meds because she was trying to do too much. Since they can't understand they need to keep calm and rest to heal, sometimes you have to let them experience the pain to prevent them from making things worse.

Hope this guy continues to recover and you get some more advise from your regular vet.

BTW I've only had good experiences with emergency vets. Yes, they charged a deposit up front in my experience. They do this because often people refuse to pay if the dog dies or is seriously injured. They have to pay for the facility, work long hours, handle trama cases and are often the best at handling trama cases.

But I'm glad this guy is doing so well and look forward to hearing what the regular vet has to say about him.

Well we just got back from the vet ! Reno does not have a broken Bone. What he has is what our vet described as a bruised bone which is why he was sore for the first few days but quickly recovered from. He said the swelling around the shoulder was due to a hard landing but on Exray, Something that was just done today for the first time, That there was no internal trauma from the accident Sunday. He did saw tho that Reno at some point in time as a young pup had digits on his front left leg , Had been broken but mended well . He said that I should be mindful during cold months as Reno ages to keep that old injury in mind should he some day start limping. Reno got his shots, Micro chipped, Had his dose for HWP . He took it all like a champ , His road rash on his under belly was starting to get pink so our vet put him on antibiotics . Vet said give Reno another week or so and you will never know hw went through this ordeal .

It was a broken toe's . Also Reno weight has shot up he now weighs in at 53.4 pounds ! :) Our vet said he would guess him to being at 5 months but hard to say 100% at this stage . Kinda like an awkward teen I guess.lol Our vet found a knot too on the side of Reno neck during exrays. He said it looked like a Beebe but he told me he wouldn't remove it because it would cause more damage being removed then leaving it? I
