To those "people" who dump off puppies in the dead of winter in 15f weather with 10inchs of snow on the ground. Your really sick. To those who do that but dump them on a HIGHWAY , There is a special place for people like you.

Sunday our car had a random flat tire. We where really upset because we just PUT new tires on our car before the weather turned bad. My husband and I where being very peevish towards the Company who put the tires on. Neither of us could grasp why this had to happen on the busiest highway in our area but worse was it was out in the middle of no where. My mother raised us to be able to accept the fact everything happens for a reason. I believe that more so after Sunday then ever before. As we sat on the side of the highway, A big red dodge truck drives by at roughly 40 mph and out of no where this horrible human being shoved a dog out the window.

Now my husband and I where on our way to the City to look at buying a Blue Pitbull to take the place of my babygirl who died in 2009. Well we never made it into the city but I left with a Dog & A random 742$ ER vet bill . We are now the proud owner of a 3 month old Black German Shepherd that we named Reno. Reno tho he had a broken collar bone and road rash, he laid in my lap wagging is tail & trying to nuzzle the children in the backset.

We have posted " Wanted" signs in every store & vet office with description of the truck & offering a 1000$ reward for any information leading to the original owners of Reno.

As it now stands tho Reno is one of the smartest & sweetest pups I have had tho he is no replacement for my babygirl Missy, He is truly a rock star . :)

Congratulations on being in the right place at the right time. Sometimes things are just meant to be. Enjoy your new boy. I just know that you were meant to have him.

I sure will, I have been trying to get photos of him but I cant get him to stay still long enough to get one in focus. I am shocked at how busy he is even tho his hurt. My normal vet said it was fairly normal given his age that his recovery would be quicker then an older dog. He likes to be right up in my lap with his head laying on my shoulder. My husband teases me about it saying " Well we where talking about having a baby, Looks like you got your wish."

I am a believer in everything happens for a reason. I can also relate to your story, I found my pup Apollo back in December on the side of the road in some bushes. I can't say what I want to say about these loser human beings, because I would get banned.

Enjoy your pup and thanks for saving him:) Pictures required!

Yes he has a very long coat. He loves to be brushed. The first night home with us I had to cut out those long hard seed Burs . I then wiped him down with a damp cloth & wetless shampoo * vet said not to bath him yet until the road rash on his belly healed up some more*. Reno loved being brushed so much that he feel asleep standing up. I don't think his a Pure breed German Shepherd his coat is a good 2-3 inch long. But then again I have never seen a solid Black one Either but our vet did say he was fairly sure he was either full or mostly German Shepherd.

We are going to make sure he has the longest life span as he can get. We went ahead and got him wormed at the vet and Friday we are going back for a check up & getting his Shots and Heart Worm Prevention started. He has an appointment for the 26th to get fixed. Our groomer will be seeing him Monday for a full work bath & dip.

What a cute little guy. It's wonderful that you saved them from the pond scum that ditched him. I suppose I should apologize to the pond scum now.

Such a handsome boy! Those jerks! It sounds like he was very lucky that day that you were there when this happened. I can only imagine how much worse it would of been if he was left on that street with oncoming traffic. :(

We thought about that as well. Along with the Wanted poster I have contacted all the local breeder's & asked if they had any pups missing or perhaps someone they sold him to had lost him. We have also taken out an ad in our local paper & one in our State paper. Posted on local FB pages, Vets & Shelters . None yet have been able to describe him properly .

(I have not read all posts yet)
Maybe they stole the truck and the pup happened to be in there and they didn't want to deal with him. Maybe his owner is looking for him. It seems to be a well bred pup that they could have easily sold for a good amount of money. Does he have a chip ID?

No he doesn't , The ER vet checked him for one. Who ever originally had him left him on a chain because he had a puppy collar embedded in his neck. If we do find the original owner's I will give them a harsh tongue lashing.

I would keep him under cover and chip him, get all his paper work so they can't claim him. He will grow up quickly and will be unrecognizable after a few months.
Good luck with him, you and he are very lucky. Things DO happen for a reason. This is the best proof.

We are diffidently keeping all paper work. Since Sunday we have already spent over 1100 $ on ER visit, treatment , Medication, Feed . I also stated he will be going to the vet to get all his shots & follow up done this week. Later in the month we will be fixing him . My husband and I both agree should the original owners come forward we will offer the option of small claims court for cost spent in return for the dog or will for go repayment of medical expenses for ownership of the dog. Thankfully but at the same time its horrible position , Our state laws require a small amount to claim ownership of a dog.

1. Have animal on your property
2. Feed It
3. Prove you recently spent money on pet
4. Has to have been on property for 24 hours or more.

I think we have a good case either way to claim ownership of Reno. :) Add in the fact we reside on Tribe Land & A part of the Chickasaw & Cherokee Nation whatever may happen will go through Tribe court and Tribe always rule in favor of Tribe members.

He's adorable! Good on you for giving him a loving home. I agree with others, I think you were meant to be there. Take a read through this forum. It was a life saver for me when bringing up my first GSD puppy. Pats from your eastern neighbor in MO. :)

If the original owners come forward? You mean the ones that tossed him from the truck?

Did you report all this to the police? This is a crime. The embedded puppy collar (did not happen if the truck was stolen or just the puppy was stolen), throwing him from the truck...and all documented. No reason to hide him. He's yours.

Yes we reported it to the Highway Patrol & our Local city Police.

You would have to know our local city police on animal abuse. We have people who are known animal abuser's adopting dogs from our local shelter to later use as bait dogs. This gets ignored as does any other offense. Our family worries that should we have to return Reno to the original owners he would be lost forever. So we are making sure to put as much Red Tape in the way .

So glad you were there to pick him up! He's got such a happy little face! :)

I can sympathize greatly about all the things you want to say to a person that does something as despicable as throwing a dog out on the road. I actually got a mini aussie that way (thrown out of a back door on the highway while I was gassing up). The things I use to describe that scum would burn someone's ears off!

Congratulations on your new pup! He is gorgeous, and I would venture to say he is a purebred long coated pure black GSD....

It is totally inconceivable that someone bought this guy as a pup and then threw him out of a truck.....apparently, they saw you on the side of the road...figured you would pick him up??? Words that I am thinking are not allowed on this forum....and my mouth would need to be washed out with soap!!!!!! I am so glad that you were there....and it is super that you are putting everything in a row to establish your ownership of the pup!!!!! Good for you!!!! and Thank you!!!!!
