I have to comment because I am in a very very very difficult position right now and the time issue is something that is being brought up. When I purchased my boerboel, I had the time to train her and devote time to her and make sure she became the dog I wanted her to be. Finances were fine. Schedule was fine and not looking at changing. Then, as my breeder said, life happened. Athena is starting to show aggressive tendencies and fear aggression, and now all these issue, financially, work related, and personal, do not permit the time I believe is necessary to dedicate to that kind of behavior problem. So yes, the thought to rehome her with the breeder who is an experienced boerboel behavior trainer and would work with her to ensure she grows into the the wonderful dog that I know is in her. I have not committed to the idea just because I am in love with her but I also have to think about her well being. What kind of things might happen if I did keep her and didn't have the time to appropriately work with her fear issues and aggreassioni issues. She could turn out fine sure, but the likely hood is that she would become fearful and attack someone without the proper training then possibly put down. and I HATE the excuse that "I don't have time" but sometimes life really does happen and you have absolutely no control over the situation.. That is where I'm at and it is not an easy decision to make at all. I am meeting with another trainer to have her evaluated and see if there's still a way with everything going on that I can still work with her over the next year until everything goes back to normal or is it best for her and her well being to go back to the breeder since she is so young and impressionable and give her the attention she needs at the moment.

I expect opinions.. but please don't be rude..

this is a bit different that throwing a pet inshelter, or to the wolves on craigslist. this is what SHOULD be done, if at all possible. but it can only be done if you're working w/a responsible and dedicated breeder or trainer. most of those in the ads i've seen are not so caring or dedicated to their pets welfare or future.

This is different than the situations I was speaking about. You are doing what is best for her, and wish to send her back to her breeder. That alone makes you better than the people I was ranting about. You are also trying a trainer first.
Now, on CL and such people are just throwing out the excuses and getting rid of animals without any true care where they are going. Most of them are flippers, bybs, lost that new puppy feel, etc.
You clearly care about this puppy and want what is best for her. So, you have my support :) The people posting the ads I've seen are just heartless humans.

I also think there are many valid reasons why a person can't keep a pet. Whitney your right, life happens and sometimes things beyond our control come into play.

The way the economy is now, jobs, sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do even tho it isn't what we necessarily 'want' to do:(

I myself have rehomed dogs, but never have I "dumped" a dog. There's a big difference and you don't always know the whole story, so it's best not to judge. Having said that, I do have a problem controlling my anger when I see Craigslist ads that say "I'm pregnant so the dog has to go", or "our landlord won't let us keep him", or even the dreaded "I don't have the time". Some of these ads are from people who had just gotten the puppy three days ago--if that's not a flipper, I'll eat my hat.

I once had a client who bought a Rott puppy from some BYB, and then when she got tired of the dog around 9-10 months of age, she took her to the shelter and told them she'd found this dog running loose as a stray. So she could avoid the surrender fees.

I mean my family has had to rehome animals before, for their best interest. But the CL people are the ones I was talking about :p

Oh... Let it be known that I was having a total emotional breakdown when I posted this xD

Craig's List is a nightmare. I cringed today when a co-worker was discussing finding a dog from there. I highly doubt she would ever have the desire to properly take care of it and that the poor dog would end up back on it. :(

There are very valid reasons for rehoming a dog. Sometimes, your lifestyle isn't what that dog needs to be happy. However, purchasing a dog on a whim and pitching it the second it bothers you is shameful.

There was a girl on lys who was asking for a free black kitten.
curious...I checked her other postings and she had an add out saying she needed free newborn diapers, free baby clothes, and putting sob stories up saying her husband left her and she couldnt buy diapers...
I am not a cat person but poor kitten!
How can she afford to take care of a kitten when she cant even buy diapers???
Selfish girl.

Although I don't think it's the best place to list a dog, there are some people who post on craigslist with good intentions and who will do due diligence on screening homes, and some people who are looking there for pets and who can provide a good home.
I look there periodically myself, mostly to see what pet supplies are available. I've bought a few nice things in the past from craigslist for good prices such as a large "critter" cage, a nice wheeled pet carrier, a huge new-in-box cat tree and a Champion dog seatbelt.
I also adopted a pet from craigslist before, I saw a listing for a "free hamster" and the location was very close to me. I have had a lot of experience owning hamsters but didn't have any at the time, and I know that 'free pet' postings can sometimes attract the worst people, so I took the little guy home.

This is all very true. Craigslist is an excellent resource at times. I've been able to score a lot of great deals there.

I don't mean to be harsh or negative. However, in my co-worker's case...she wanted to spend no more than a couple hundred dollars on a pure bred dog. I would be surprised if someone who was breeding quality Shih Tzus would list them on CL. It will be interesting to see how things work out for her. I hope it goes well. :)

Thanks for the support :) Not gonna lie it makes me feel a little better now that people are agreeing it might be the right decision.

I have looked on CL before just to see what was on it and it makes me so mad sometimes to read those posts. When I was stationed in Germany, we had a Military type Craig's list for the base, there was ALWAYS pets put on there because the owner didn't want to pay shipping for the pet to come back to the U.S. with them or it was more than they can handle and just need it gone, or you name it. It's no wonder the German breeder had a hard time selling Titan to me. Luckily he has no behavioral issues and can deal with my changing schedule as long as he gets the exercise he needs, which conveniently is the exercise I need as well.

I did talk to the trainer yesterday and he told me that I need to give her back to the breeder, if not because "life happened" but because I didn't get what I paid for and because she has fear aggressioin she will likely turn on my shepherd and severely hurt him, as she's already challenging him and pinning him at 6 months. *sigh* the curveballs of life.. :(

Definitely not want.. she is so adorable and at the house is so good as long as nothing changes. but I can't trust her at 6 months around people.. she makes me very very nervous and that kind of training will take time and dedication I don't have at the moment nor the money to hire a trainer. The breeder is more than willing to take her back and work with her.. if she wouldn't have taken her back I would have kept her and attempted to create time out of thin air or at least found a home who has experience with dominant breeds and/or fear reactive dogs.

Seriously?!? At least take responsibility! goodness, people these days continue to amaze me.
