It's not a real registry such as the AKC or UKC.Anybody can register their dog whether it is purbred or not. They only require a picture along with a filled out form and a fee.You can look up the sire and dam on their website if you have their continental registration numbers.

The only recognized registry in the U.S. is the AKC. The CKC, continental kennel club, is not a legitimate registry. It's for backyard breeders. You will need to go back to the "breeder" and ask for hte AKC papers. Either they wont' have them or one of the parents are on limited registration thru the AKC which means they can not be registered.

Sorry. I hope you didn't pay a lot.

Listen. Unfortunately, you were taken by less than ethical people. That's the bottom line. You have the puppy now. Just do the best you can with him. I would put pet insurance on him and do an embark panel to look for genetic diseases. We all started somewhere and most of us started with a pound puppy or a backyard bred dog. Don't feel bad, just love your dog and train him to be a good member of society.

Stick around, read the training threads. :)

Thank you and everyone! Lesson learned!

If the dad is AKC registered they should be able to give you his registration #, but with people breeding like this you really have no way of knowing if that dog is actually the sire to your pup. Not sure I'd trust what they said. The mom may be on a limited registration as already stated or she may not be a purebred GSD at all. You really don't know. You may want to have the pup Embark tested for breed & health to give you a better idea of what you have.

I see you are new so welcome to the forum. Can we see a photo of your new pup? What did you name him? You may be pleasantly surprised that he is a wonderful German Shepherd. All of our dogs have come from various shelters both government and Humane Society. All have been wonderful dogs. Some turned out to be purebred, others are mixes. Duke is our current dog and he's a mix of shepherd and mutt but he's a big sweet happy dog. I don't know if DNA tests are available where you are but one can help you know the breeds you have and any genetic faults your pup my have or carry. I'm sorry if you paid a lot, hopefully you got a healthy dog, and he will be a great companion.

Envy is a super cutie! At this point, AKC, CKC, whatever, She's yours now, take good care of her, become lifelong friends and enjoy each other. Life isn't always perfect, either are we. I would be happy to have her as I'm sure you are. Unless you had extensive show plans for her, just love her and enjoy life together!

Welcome from NW Ohio to you and your beautiful pup. Relax and enjoy , they aren't little very long. My favorite tip for puppies is consistency. They will spot your weaknesses quickly, they are so smart! Have fun.

Yep, indeed!
Also asked Sabi - have you, by chance, traveled with an 8 week old puppy from Canada to the US, or know if that’s even possible/allowed at the moment? Thank you!
Canada to the US was never an issue in the past but things have changed. Your best bet is to contact a vet and inquire about regulations. @David Winners has a dog that is from Canada so he may be able to answer.
I know in the past I only had to show vet records come back not going down. Shipping is different from travelling so be specific.
thanks! I’ll message David and reach out to our vet, too.
