I don't like begging dogs!

I really don't. All of my previous dogs would literally leave the room if I picked up a plate! Sabi and and I shared snacks in the truck and it was she who invented the fridge tax. Have you ever tried to move a dog that is actively choosing to not be moved? But she NEVER came near the table! And I could get up and leave my plate on the floor and she would not touch it.
Punk has no manners. It's not her fault. I carried her around with me for weeks when she was little. I fed her by hand. And she has spent a large chunk of her life living in very cramped quarters with me. Plus now that she is older I sort of let her do whatever she likes, even if it irritates me!
I fed her a bite of my breakfast muffin once, because she was feeling crappy and hadn't been eating much. It happened to be blueberry. She liked it. She REALLY liked it. So I started giving her a bite in the morning. I offered her a bite af banana bread once. She spit it out, gave me a disgusted look and took herself back to bed. Blueberry it was then, and has been everyday that I work since then.
Over time one bite became two, two became three, three became four and so on. She now gets most of the muffin that is actually my breakfast. It's all good. I needed to lose a few pounds and I love my Punk.
However...
This morning I was apparently not doing things right. So Miss Thing here decided to climb onto my lap and remove the muffin in it's entirety from my possession! To be fair we had already eaten half of it. Also to be fair I could have stopped her but I was busy laughing and choking on what was to be my last bite of muffin.

But she didn't beg!

We never give the dogs human food, ever. Period.
They don't beg, drool or stare, ever. Period.

They know "don't mooch" or "no mooch" if they test visitors. I routinely leave meat on the counter to thaw and leave the house; never been touched.

It just works for us.

Except my daughter gives them a little piece of cheese when it's out and they can hear that plastic unwrapping from rooms away. They seem to know even if it's lifted from the fridge. ;) So there's no never in my ever....

Oh, and Harley is addicted to ice cubes. As in weirdly addicted.

Since Varik gets quiite a bit of 'human food' anyways (i.e. he's raw fed with a human grade base mix), he does get various and sundry other things. I blame my husband for a lot of it. He's the cook in the house and Varik lays beside him as he preps to see if there is anything that he can help with the disposal of. He loves fruit. What am I saying .. he loves almost all food except vegetables LOL

I do save him something if I have fries or something. I feed him when I'm done. Otherwise, he goes and lays in the hall while I eat. He knows I'm like Joey on Friends "Joey does not share food".

He would love to sit and drool on my leg in a (his) perfect world, but no thanks. ;)

PS: Give that lady her muffin already!!!

We were living with MIL when we got Buffy. I specifically asked husband and MIL not to feed her anything whilst we were eating. Well, for the first 6 months, I didn't but MIL was having a lot of underlying health issues, and was wheelchair bound, she wanted to bond with Buffy and feeding her food was the easiest way and let face it, it's hard to resist with those eyes! MIL didn't have much appetite by then but in order to share food with the dog, she had to eat. She fed Buffy behind my back and I let her, after a couple of weeks, she got used to eat again and I deliberately caught her feeding, so I said she should either feed the dog something healthy or not feed at all. Well, she ate better, healthier and it made both of them happy so........ From then on, Buffy would sit nicely next to us, with the most pathetic face if I shake my head from left to right which means no. If I don't do it which indicates there is a possibility she would get some, so she would put her happy face up and keeps smiling while sitting nicely waiting. She never paws or climbs to me but she does it to daddy :ROFLMAO:

There is nothing I wouldn't do for my girl. I love this dog beyond all reason. I figure if stealing my food keeps her happy and spunky she can go for it.
I mean really. My 12 year old dog climbed into my lap to take food! Good job my girl!

Haha that’s how I am with Kimber these days. What?! You ate my steak and pooped on the couch? Oh that’s okay. Hahaha

P.S. She’s never done any of those things. She does read me like a book though and knows exactly how to push my buttons. My friends who’ve known us a long time find it hilarious. She plays me like a fiddle.

Begging dogs drive me nuts! There’s nothing more disgusting than a dog staring and drooling bubbles at your food. Zeppelin doesn’t beg because he isn’t fed human food. Athena on the other hand…. That dog is a pig!
Ive created the ultimate solution - sweet, sweet separation.

Begging is how wolves were domesticated into dogs. You think you are going to change that behavior? hahaha
When our son comes to the dinner table, Duke takes position at the end of the table waiting for manna to drop from the heavens. He is large enough he can sit at the table but he prefers the floor. I have trained them to stay out of the kitchen so when I am doing something with food I take it to them. They have learned to wait patiently for it on the other side of the bar. I just don't give out food in the kitchen. If you sneak into the kitchen I walk right past you. You might try something along those lines. Or just give the old girl her due...
blueberries, huh? Can't blame Shadow.

Atlas and all are other dogs know that they eat AFTER US but it doesnt stop him from trying, nearly every dinner time he will sit down in protest and let out little grumbles and barks.
Each time I say no and we ignore him, then he settles down and goes to sleep until he hears the click of the knife and fork, he is work in progress but he is generally good at 15 months. What he has learnt is that if he goes outside for a whiz or poop and is good he will get a bicci when he comes in, so what does he do, he pretends now that he has to go outside just so he can get a biccie. Of late I will say " do you really want to go or are you being naughty"? and he will look at me with those eyes and start cuddling me and yep he gets a bicci so who has won! hehe not all the time but I find the more gsds I lose the more I let them get away with!
Our first boy Devo was funny he was until this point very trustworthy with food uptil one incident at about 8 years old. We ordered pizza and we had a phone call half way through eating (before mobiles) so we got up for a sec, I heard a nosie and went to look and their was Devo with a look of WHAT?? and the corners of the pizza sticking out of his gob! Of course I made him drop it too many bad things on there for him but geez it was funny!

None of ours are too bad about begging; embarassingly enough, out of all of them, Charlie is the worst! He knows better, but its like he HAS to know what im eating, he usually knows better than to actually touch it, but he always tries to get a good whiff🙄

May be due to his habit of being super nosey, he always has to know what im doing, why im looking in my bag, why im looking in a certain drawer, cabinet, or closet, his head is always shoved in my way until he's satisfied nothing exciting is happening.

i will admit we do give them things from time to time, we're pretty lax here, LOL

Yeah mine does know better. Sometimes his stomach overrules his brain and I will sharply reprimand sitting and staring. That's so annoying. (Didn't I mention previously that I don't share food). He knows when I eat to go lie down.

Having said that and knowing how high his food drive is, he's a really good dog and I don't worry about his stealing food. I bring in yummy smelling food and place it on our breakfast bar (around his eye height at most). I'll then leave and go change clothes in the bedroom and come back knowing that it will be there, untouched.

Because if Varik is sitting and staring, he's usually within 2 ft of me! Close enough that he can drool on my foot if necessary .. just .. no! LOL

When he's respecting my space, he's all the way across the room ... he doesn't do in between things ;)

ETA: I don't like people to watch me eat, either. I'm an equal opportunity food guarder.

My Sam dog, many many years ago, would watch from the edge of the room. If we looked at her, she would turn her had as if to say, "I'm not looking". We didn't teach her this. We only taught her to stay on the edge of the room instead of being underfoot.

Lately, If we stopped for fast food take out in our truck, we never shared with our dogs. Bad enough the truck was full of dog hair, never mind big heads coming up to ask for a taste! One day I bought a nice milk shake with whipped cream. I put in into a center cup holder while I put my credit card away. I turned and found my gal-dog helping herself to my whipped cream! no begging.
