Our GSD is not aggressive, but neither is she friendly. A stranger could walk by her or stand next to her and she is fine. But if that stranger starts to stare at her intently or is insistent on petting her, even though I’ve asked them not to and her body language says “leave me alone,” she will growl softly and back up. This usually freaks out the clueless stranger.
I feel like when people ask “is your dog friendly” they really mean “is your dog going to eat me?” If your dog is like this, what do you tell people? I don’t want them to think she’s aggressive, nor do I want it to seem like an invitation to mess with her and make her uncomfortable.
I have been considering getting her something that says “do not pet”, but I’m concerned about the possible ramifications. People jump to conclusions and I don’t want to get kicked out of a store or campground for having an “aggressive” dog... she is also a “talker” and people seem to jump to the conclusion that she is aggressive when she is simply excited or whining (usually that food doesn’t appear faster lol).
Thanks for any constructive suggestions!
