I’m still not finished on complaining about my GSD , she’s a friggin nightmare. Nothing nice to say about her , she’s an awful nightmare when she sees other dogs while she’s on a leash and their on or off a leash , in an open park or forest when she’s off her leash she’s fine with all dogs. But even teaching her the recall she only comes to me if no other dogs around. Some times she’ll come back if just 1 or 2 dogs about. But basically this breed is the worst breed of dog I’ve ever owned !! Very unpleasant dog and I wish i’ed never ever bought her. She’s a bloody nightmare , out of all the nice dogs I end up with this crazy dog. I would have been better with a nice rescue dog. Next dog for me is a quiet, kind little rescue dog. I think GSD dogs are the most annoying **** dogs . I’ve even put her on plant tablets for anxious, nervous dogs. Seems to help a little bit. I would never ever get another GSD dog or GSD cross . They are just guard dogs nothing else. I can’t believe what an idiot I was thinking this would be a great dog to have. A street dog would be better than this bloody GSD .

I have a female GSD puppy of 16 months old , worse dog I’ve ever owned and I now have a broken wrist because of her , she decided to bolt with me and her on a leash , chasing a cat who suddenly came out of nowhere and ran behind us , I was dragged by her on a concrete car park floor etc my leg all scraped and I eventually fell onto my arm and wrist. These GSD dogs are a nightmare even when training them they need to be trained every single day.yesterday she decided to start barking none stop at this nasty French woman, who was being verbally annoying to me , it was this woman’s cat who ran behind us and she comes out of her entrance building rattling her set of keys , and that’s how I fell last time? As the cat ran behind Me and my dog, and my dog went crazy, ! In any case I think GSD dogs make terrible family dog, terrible companion

Fascinating. Perhaps you should give the dog to someone else.

Get a good trainer, one that is experienced with GSD's. The dog is not the problem. The training, or more specifically, the lack of training is.

And yes, they need good, consistent training most every day. Guess you weren't aware of that when you got your dog. If you can't do that, please find a home for her where she can thrive. You both would be happier.

Training every day is a feature, not a bug. But not every family feels that way.

Don't let the romance of a ,"forever home" keep you from finding a better match for your dog.
Or don't let the idea of 100% reward training keep you from teaching your dog the human rules to a happy life. You will need a good mentor/ trainer to help you with that.

Sorry to hear both your arm and wrist are broken. It must be really awkward if not painful holding your phone to type out this rant:rolleyes:
It's too late for all of us here that already have one or several German Shepherds and are hopelessly addicted. But maybe it will save countless others from starting down the rabbit hole. Take care!

Not sure what you're trying to accomplish by your "rant" here on a GSD forum....structure/discipline/routine & training will make these guys the perfect companion imo.....I feel very very sorry for the dog and how this may end...as others have said you've let the dog down...though it's clear you blame the breed...it's just as clear to me that it is your fault not hers' .... can it be fixed with the right trainer.....yes i think so... but your attitude towards the dog will have to do a 180 degree turnaround....the "right trainer" will help you with that.....BUT only if you want it to happen

I agree, These GSD are horrible. Mine has caused me so many issues.
I have lost 26 Lbs. since we started are daily walks and training. . Causing me to know longer need to take Blood Pressure medicine. Wife has lost 20 lbs
WTF is dog Yoga and workouts???? Crazy!
My beer budget is now spent on training tools that they love to play with. Alcohol consumption is 0 now replaced with water. No time for sitting around doing nothing anymore.
I haven't seen my couch in weeks!
My vitamin D levels have leveled out.
My screen time on my phone is non-existent. And when I actually have time to scroll through my phone it is primarily dog training ideas.
Don't get me started with how my social life has been expanded by doing tracking and scent detection.... I am going to have to make more time when/if we start bite work.
Relationship wise is horrible. My wife wants to spend time with me now outside with our dogs! So much for alone time.
Speaking of alone time. Can I just go to a room or outside without being followed EVERYWHERE!?

Unbelievable the amount of time and lifestyle changes these dogs can impact on your life.

I see you a terrible GSD (lol) and raise you an Attack Beagle!
(Is there anything worse?)
I have had a White GSD and a Beagle at the same time nd they have been the sweetest dogs on the planet. Both rescues also. So yeah, this is totally on the owner.

The worst thing to me is the non stop shedding. What if one were to wait until the undercoat was really thick and matted in the winter, then shear them like a sheep?Adhere the fleece/coat to a breathable fabric like cotton or bamboo and have a washable coat to dress the dog in each morning. There could even be faux fur versions so you could change the color to go with your outfit. You want a sable but you have a black and tan, easy peasy 😅

My long haired GSD's both get regular brushing daily for an hour or two, ear cleaning and teeth brushed and I enjoy every minute of doing all of it and so do they!
No bad dogs, only incompetent owners. I live alone 24/7 with them and they go practically everywhere with me. I also drive them to big open fields in parks daily where I throw Chuck It balls on a long stick for running exercise. I also cook human grade food which I find is healthier and cheaper than solely a high end kibble diet or raw. No canned food no matter how Natural, Organic + high end period. I do put a couple inches of Taste of the Wild on bottom of bowl to add nutrients that may not be in the chicken thighs, white sweet potatoes, rice + green beans.
Solid poop every time.
Copious amounts of fresh water always available.

Please don't get a fish. They aren't any easier.

Maybe a nice plant.
You have to water them though.

I had to return an aggressive angel fish to the pet store, back in the day. It caused nothing but trouble, bullying other fish in the tank. I once put a prayer plant outside while it was raining, unfortunately it picked up a stowaway cane toad. That was an unpleasant surprise, when I brought the plant back inside. Fish, plants, nothing is easy.
