Willow and I did a somewhat difficult backpack this weekend, and the next day Willow was definitely sore. It seemed to mostly be an issue with one of her rear legs; whether it was a hip or a knee or whatever, I couldn't tell, and she seems fine now, after a second day.
She has never been x-rayed for hip dysplasia but I've never had any reason to think she has hip problems, other than her not liking dogs to jump on her or mount her.
Personally, I started taking glucosamine supplements about 6 months ago because of knee arthritis, and I dunno...it seems to me that they've helped. So I'm thinking of starting Willow on something similar.
I searched the forum and found a few threads about joint supplements, but most of them were discussing specific brands, and not personal experiences on whether or not they actually saw improvement in their dogs' mobility.
So, what do you think? Are they worth it? Is it something I should probably talk to the vet about and not an online forum?
(Also if you recommend I get Willow's hips x-rayed just to see if she does have HD, I'd take that advice too.)
EDIT to add: Willow just turned 7 years old.
