I've already mentioned that Sophie was diagnosed with a torn CCL 2 weeks ago but it happened 8 weeks ago now. She seems to be doing much better and sometimes barely has a limp and other times has a noticeable limp and difficulty standing up. I've managed to save enough to get her a brace now. The vet at Tufts Cummings school, Foster hospital says she believes it is a full tear and that she definitely needs surgery. Of course the surgery is much more that I can afford (did I mention I'm on disability?). So surgery is almost 1/4 of my yearly income. I have pretty much decided that if I can get some funding then I want tightrope surgery. I'm still waiting for an estimate from the vet so I can apply for funding. For now I'm going to get an expensive brace to help support it when she's turning her happy circles. She has bad elbows so I want to avoid her being lame in the rear for the rest of her life. She already has arthritis in the elbows, she doesn't need it in the back. So is the vet right that she definitely needs surgery despite her improvement? The vet said she couldn't see any damage yet so wanted surgery to be soon if possible. I'm going to have a vet take a look at her at the free VCA ask-a-vet at an event later today. Maybe they can give me an opinion on it base on her improvement.
