Tentative name is Valor
I have to get the highest protein & fat content product that my raw supplier has as the main staple for Kayman's meals. They call it Shepherd's blend & it is for working dogs or to put on weight. No weight gain here, just weight maintain on my pocket rocket at 66lbs.Ellie just heard Valora feeding cycle and said she would run from Ontario to Ohio for it.. I can’t keep weight on her.. I asked Carmen how to get her more plump.. she was no help![]()
There's a lab I walk by quite often that looks to be openly challenging my dogs, not vicious just dog reactive, he drags the owner a bit.14 year old farm dog went after Valor today. Valor barked back and pinned him with a paw but didn't bite him at all. He let the dog up and stopped immediately when I said out. I had to wrangle the farm dog a bit but he slinked away to the other side of the house.
It was strange and unprovoked. I was watching.
I’ve heard we get the dogs we deserve..I hate it when I lose a long post...
I took Valor to the vet on Thursday for vaccinations in preparation for surgery this winter. He is cryptorchid and I decided that the surgery was lower risk than potential testicular cancer. They wanted to do it at 18 months but I decided to hold off until he hit his actual physical maturity. They were worried he would get fat which would make the surgery more difficult lol.
Our veterinary practice is a husband and wife team. Nerd has only seen Laura in past visits. She's always liked Nerd and has always been supportive of my decisions such as me administering ivermectin and my voice of flea and tick control. This was the first time Luke had seen Valor. He had seen Fama several times and he came out to the truck to put her down when the time came. He also wouldn't take any money for it, took his time and let us say our goodbyes.
First off, Nerd was great in the waiting room. He ignored the 3 other barking dogs that were in there when we entered. He went right up on the scale and downed to get his weight. He jumped up on the counter with an UP UP command and got a treat (something we did when he was a pup) and got loving from both the receptionists. We were them escorted into an exam room.
I kept him on a leash but gave him the run of the room to check things out. When Luke came in, I have him an UP UP and he jumped up on the exam table. Luke gave him a cursory physical exam and he stood there without complaint. Luke said, "Wow, he's in great shape!. Where's he from? Is he a Dutch Shepherd?"
"No, he's a German Shepherd."
"I mean, is he Dutch lines or whatever."
"He's DDR, Czech and WGWL primarily."
"We don't see German Shepherds like this in here. This dog is hard. He feels like a horse. He's got legs like tee stumps and he doesn't squat in the rear."
"That's a show line thing. He comes from a working line kennels."
"I've never seen another dog like this other than Fama."
It touched my heart that he remembered her. He even remembered her name 5 years later.
The girls out front saw Murtagh in the parking lot and they both took treats out to him and invited him in. Luke came out to meet Murtagh and he looked like he was preparing for takeoff with his little corn dog tail going crazy.
I love my dog and my vet. I feel lucky for sure.
