...when, she/he:
* replies to the call-back with a "maybe not, maybe later" look
* now thinks rules like when to sit and wait are now optional
* suddenly the frozen carrot is apparently out of fashion and will be spit out
* needs to find out how it is behaving like a hooligan with other dogs
* test everything that was previously forbidden

feel free to join the frustrated "parent" list ;-)

the things listed maybe a frustration list for you. with training,
socializing and consistently the things you listed will go unnoticed.
it's not the dog it's a matter of you taking control. if you don't
know how to train and socialize find a trainer. i read somewhere
"when your dog isn't doing what you want you have to stop and
ask yourself what am i doing wrong".

sorry, it didn't seem like fun having a dog respond that way is fun but
now that you say it it must be fun. lol.

indeed it was meant as fun - it is normal for a dog to show "different" behavior at this age.
doggiedad, don't tell me your dogs don't ;-)

It's about what they try to get away with at that age.
And, yes, there is a lot more training around here.

Doggiedad has a perfectly trained dog. He put a lot of work into doing that, from when the dog was a puppy. I have used a lot of his suggestions in the past, with great results.
Not to say that Hans doesn't try to be a butthead young'un, LOL!

Dogs are not machines, but complex living beings. They can't and don't need to function perfectly, we humans don't even archive this.
For example compared to the headaches which I caused my parents, the ones my dog is causing me are very small and easier to fix.
From a puppy that only follows the parents/pack to an independent dog, which can make his/her own decisions the transition can not be without issues.
The little "flaw" of puberty, makes them more human and therefore lovable.

But the fun is now out of my thread ...

..when spending time with you, working on training, is "boring"
.....when they give you the "your embarrassing me look", although I already get that.

I'm starting to get that on occasion. I'm trying to head it off, but Lisl will ignore me sometimes or just glance at me like she didn't hear the command.

"Oh, were you talking to me? Sorry, I was engaged with this pile of poo. Now you were saying?"

at that age my dog did what any dog would do except i didn't
mark it up to a stage.

We all need be humorous about the difficult times now and then! For me being humorous is the only way to stay sane during my 10 month old's teenage stage :) and I totally agree with those "I know what you want, but I'm not gonna do it" looks! So funny but soooo frustrating!

I believe the teenage time frame may be later, but my 5.5 month boy already demonstrates some of the behaviors listed. The frustrating part is that the challenges are after many weeks of better listening and we thought we were over some of the big hurdles.

A new one is that he grabs the leash while he's being walked. There's actually a cut out piece of his leash at the exact distance from his neck to his mouth. He's almost saying, "Enough leash, I'm in control now!".

My patience is low since besides the puppy, I also have a two-legged/non-furry teenager plus a pre-teen child....that's a lot of hormonal behavior wreaking havoc in our house!

This thread is hilarious.. Doggie dad.. You seriously need to lighten up before you kill everyone's fun. Not everybody wants a robot for a dog like you ... I enjoy the fact that mine has a mind of her own and has attitude once in a while.
