Ok, so i'm finished with my workout and came into the house. I'm pretty pumped up and my blood is flowing well, sweating and probably excreting all kinds of chemicals and my poor GSD pup is freaked out and staying away from me. I haven't really been home and working out around him because I immediately had to leave the day after his adoption, so he hasn't seen me right after a workout. It's kind of funny, because he really doesn't stay by my wife's feet, but now he won't leave her. I'm positive it has to do with my work out and the change of voice and such. Has anybody seen this before? I did gently go to him and comfort him and he didn't try to run or anything but he's still a bit hesitant.

Welcome aboard!

Next time you come in from a workout, toss him a few treats from a supply you have prepared before you left. If he seems skittish, don't force him, but stand a few feet away and toss them to him. He'll get used to seeing you come in, and look forward to it.

It could be more due to the fact you haven't been home around him much instead of it being because you worked out.

My husband travels a lot and there was a fear/excitement reaction when he came home- so when he drove up I'd get the pups all excited "who's here" and they'd run out to greet him, when he came in, lots of petting and treats. Now it's 'Daddy's home!' all the time. It's natural for your pup to stick close to mom until he's sure that you coming home is even better

well, i had been home for about 20 hours at that point and my gym is in the garage, so I didn't just get home. lol, poor little guy. I took him for a little ride right after that and he stayed on my lap and was fine.

Yeah you probably smelled differently to him. The treat suggestion is an excellent one. I do most of the feeding, walking, training, etc with our girl, but I do give extreme nummies to my husband to give to Liisi from time to time. That way she knows Daddy is a good guy too. ;)
