Hunter is only one years old or in other words 15 months he is big like small cow size big he is 23 or 24 inches he is a gsd mix I think the other two breeds in him are lab and anatolian shepherd cause of his color blond body with brown and black muzzle and eyes make up, anyway on to my question based on his age would it be to soon to give him glucosamine supplements? I ask this because of his hips if he plays to much with his sister his back right leg with hurt him not hurt like pain but I have seen him take a turn bad cause of it and he will limp we are taking him to the vet on 22nd but that is for a shot if I have time i will ask the vet that but I don't know since it is one of those get in and get out vet times.

it is not him who plays rough it his sister she bits his legs and picks on him. He is a beach bum he goes with the flow, the shot they will be getting is the boardatella(sp?) x-rays cost a lot. Last time he had a sprain on that leg and we could do nothing but let him rest for a week, I bought him some milk-bone essentials plus + optimal health dog biscuits which he likes and then do have glucosamine but I know they are not like the supplements which has 500mg.

I would say give him the supplements. My vet has me giving bandit the advanced joint supplements you buy at petsmart once a day for his joints and he's only 8 months old. He doesn't have any joint problems but my vet said it's a good preventative. =)

took hunter to the vest cause of his limping along with his kitty brother kenji who had a leg problem of his own. I asked the the vet about joint supplements she said he is still a baby thro. Vet doc he is one is is a adult or in my case a big boy, I did not say that but I thought it she told us about two things a case of shots that help all the joints or dasuquin which is a joint health supplement they are a big chewy treat we got those but the price was crazy 84 in a bag for 50 something bucks I can get something better at petsmart for that price and a lot more would come in the bottle but the up side is they are for dogs 60 pounds and over and hunter is now 68 pounds and the treats are 900mg of glucosamine.

I put my GSD on supplements at a year.

Definitely get xrays. They cost money, but you should be able to afford vet costs like this for your dog. You need to know what issues may be arising now to help prevent them from getting worse.

Hunter does not need xrays not non less his back leg does not get better hunter's legs are just like a footballers like when a football player gets side swiped that is the same with what hunter has now but he has pain meds which are helping and we will be putting ice on him.

My 14 month old gets beat up at the park all the time, falls down the stairs, and goes splay legged flying across the kitchen floor and doesn't limp.

At limp at this age with no huge injury would surely be sending me for xrays. Of course, I want to know what I'm dealing with regardless and will be OFA'ing for the record.

Your dog does need x-rays. Out of all our dogs and many we've raised over the years, the only that that ever showed problems like yours ended up having severe hip dysplasia.

It is not normal for a dog to limp after playing.

Without xrays or vet exam how do you even know it is a joint injury?

Of course you can find meds online cheaper--but it would certainly help to get a diagnosis before treating him yourself! What is happening with your pup is not normal.

might not be new, but still needs xrays. If an issue goes unchecked, it could get a lot worse!

he will get x-rays if it does not get better or if nothing changes other that that we have him on rest before the meds we had him resting for five days and now we will have him on rest for 15 days after his ten days are up.
