Any of you guys here play either of those games? Been looking for platoon mates in those games specially for weekend play when I actually have time.

I don't play WOT because of the revenue model (being able to buy upgrades for cash). I hadn't heard of War Thunder but just checked out the site. It kind of looks like they will have the same kind of deal. Is that what it looks like to you?

I'm on a short hiatus right now (licking my wounds), but I play Aces High.

WT is basically the same revenue model but it is far less "pay to win,' than WOT. There are no gold rounds WT is far more "pay to be lazy" On full realism it is much closer to a simulator on historic or arcade you're basically playing WOT in the air, but it is still fun and many of the same tactics still apply especially on historic.

I haven't really seen WOT be that bad though. You can still pay silver for gold rounds (albeit it is expensive) and some of those premium tanks are rather nice, but I don't find myself having many issues stomping pay tankers. The wallet warriors are usually pretty crap at the game.

You run into one of those terrible grind tanks and rage quit? Some of those things are so rage inducing it isn't funny.

I've just about quit playing any game online. Just tired of the 7 year olds and keyboard warriors.

I used to lead a clan in an online gaming league Q2, Q3, CS. We had servers co-located in a few geographic locations, rented them out for matches. We had public servers running as well. We had huge (for the day)free lan parties and people from around the country came.

Fun times in the height of my geekdom.

Yeah the maturity level on those things is pretty bad sometimes, but I always just kept my head down and let my gun do the trolling.

That's a good plan ;) Every once in awhile I'll jump online and play something but its not very often these days. Life get's in the way I typically have less than an hour to myself. The AI has gotten so much better in newer games that I just as soon battle them. No BS.

Aces High is an acquired taste. There is no AI to speak of, it's just a "here's a battlefield, go fight" MMO based upon an old but very good flight simulator. The really good thing about it is that there are very few kids, and those that do leak in don't generally last long. The competition in-game is other-worldly. It's my impression that most players are over 40, and many are retired military, pilots, or aviation professionals. If you are a "natural" and accustomed to being amongst the elite with little comparative effort, this game will humble you. Months of effort will get my skill set up to the point I'm in the top 10% monthly. Going further will require displacing people with skill levels I've never run into in gaming, and not kids...not a one in the top ranks.

I'll take a look at WT. Last few weeks I've been playing SH4 and WIC against the AI. I suppose it's time to stick my head back in MMO land.

If you are good at energy fighting or boom and zoom you'll be right at home in the upper two difficulty levels of WT. Just be sure to go Germany. The maps are a bit favorable to interceptor pilots who can climb high quickly and come into every fight with the altitude advantage. That might change if they let the escort fighters start at altitude.

I enjoy flying my 727-230 in FS9.

My newest simulator build isn't as far a long as my old build.

The simulator in the photo was dismantled when I moved into my new home a couple of years ago.

This is the new build. It's a very slow process:

Very nice.

I play online games to keep me from launching into expensive projects like that. You combined the two pastimes and will be stuck with basket weaving (oh, wait, how much is bamboo?) when you run out of money to feed your brain. ;)

I lost my Commercial certificate and my instrument rating over three years ago after my heart attack and subsequent surgery and I can't fly anymore.

I needed an outlet really bad.

You should give Aces High a look. You could be one of the extra-terrestrials that keep the rest of us humble. I know for a fact that many players are there because of circumstances like yours, including guys that can't pull 6 actual gees anymore due to advanced age.

How old is aces high now anyway. The last time I remember it being fairly popular all the sim people were jumping on IL2

I've never played any sort of video games before and don't know the first thing about them.

I fly on line occasionally with on-line controllers all over the world with an organization called VATSIM.

Keeps my chops up.
