I think this is where this goes; my apologies if it's not.

So these two breeders have been on my list for a while.

On the "Dogs you LOVE" thread, I posted a bitch from one of the kennels that I think is amazing. It was late and I'm a scatter-brain sometimes, but I thought one kennel was WGWL and one was WGSL. The one I thought was WGWL was the one I posted, and when I was corrected, I was like, "Oh, then the other breeder is the working line breeder."

But then I looked at the websites and realized that the sites just say German lines. So I think this whole time I just assumed?!

What lines are these breeders working with?

They both appear to have German Show Lines.

On Musinger Dunn's site, on the About Us under Our Standards, one of the bullet points says, "To selectively breed the highest quality German confirmation and working bloodlines."

I think that's why I thought they were the WL breeder. Gah. Back to square one. LOL Why do lines have to be SO CONFUSING?

I thought that was a very pretty show line that you posted-if you like the dog why not go visit and see how the dog works-

If you're drawn to show lines (which you appear to be ) then there is nothing wrong with that as long as you find a good one who is actively working their dogs. Don't forget, just because it's a "show line" doesn't mean that it CAN'T work or does not have the ability to work. It's just a little harder to find a breeder who really focuses on both the looks and working ability this day in age. But they are out there.

I agree Justine...they are out there and kennels like Witmer-Tyson, Bullinger, Alta-Tollhaus, Huerta-Hof all have reputations of producing very sound showlines.

Are you looking for a dog to do Sch, or something else?
Just because a dog is show lines does not mean they can't work, or won't be good at Sch. Bianca is from mostly WG show lines and most of the dogs on her pedigree are SCH3 (she's mostly from Bullinger on both sides.)

Above is my question. When it comes down to all these lines I understand what is visual such as looks and a dogs structure relates to it's pedigree of working-line and show-line along with it's origin but picking the right dog really depends on what you are planing to due with your dog or at least your expectations for your choice of GSD.

I have no idea if any of that even makes sense. I am just getting the impression that if you are not doing Schutzhund or working your dog then you need to get a show dog. If you want to do Schutzhund or protection etc. then you need to get a working line dog.

It can't be this easy right.

You are RIGHT. it isn't "that easy".

I don't do SchH anymore, nor do I really "work" my dogs but I will NEVER have a show line dog. No offense to those that love them, but I just don't find them attractive.

It is more about the right dog than just the right "bloodlines".

I have never done any formal "work" with my dogs, and I have two working lines. They suit my lifestyle, and I love their attitudes. Showline's are not my thing.

I feel the same way, love the working lines. However I train with a few Alta-Tollhaus kennel showlines and they are really nice structurally and temperament wise.
If I were to go showline, I'd go with a strong herding pedigree.

It is all about individual opinion, so go with what YOU like Konotashi!

Thanks for your opinions. I am just trying to figure out what type of GSD I should be looking . I will not be competing in anything with my next puppy. I am now in a wheelchair so I will just be looking for a family pet that will be with all the time. I will have a lot of time to work with her and run her but that will be it. I just don't want to get a dog that I wouldn't be able to offer what she may have been bread to be. "hence working line GSD" So I guess that leaves me open to almost anything .
