So last week we noticed a growth on Wolfgang's eye and brought him to the vet. She diagnosed pannus and gave us a bunch of drops (steriod 4x a day and another 2x a day). My first thought was to check here!!! Thank god I did - it was very reassuring to see how common this is and how treatable it is.

He's been so good with taking his drops - he now knows the routine and unless he's in the middle of playing he takes it like a good boy. And even then, he'll take them and doesnt look for a treat afterwards, his treat is going back outside to play.

And thankfully he's mostly black - which means he stays in the shade, out of the sun LOL.

We have an appt this afternoon with the eye specialist so we should know more then. Keep ya'll posted!

I'm glad you brought him in when you noticed something not right with his eye. This was a swift diagnoses, now treatment can start.

I have never experienced this personally but know our breed is at the top of the list for pannus.

You really do hear about this being managed very well and being diligent about getting the drops in the eye is important.

Eye doctor confirmed its only in the right eye. Phew!!!! He's on the same # of drops for a month and then recheck. Probably able to go on maintence stuff after that. Mentioned about bright light being an issue so I'm going to look into doggles for him. Especially for car rides - he LOVES car rides.

Just an update - we had our follow up visit last week with the eye doctor. Wolfgang is responding very well to the eye drop therapy! The growth we had seen on the eye has all but disappeared. The eye doc is very optomistic about his prognosis.

We are tapering on the steriods and still giving the 2 drops a day of the other. He is sooooo darn good getting his eye drops, I cant even begin to tell you how lucky we are. Still havent gotten the doggles yet. The doc said he would probably be OK without them, I'm just concerned about winter time when theres no shade in the backyard and the sun reflects off the snow.

Recheck in 4 months.

Update - Wolfgang had his checkup with the eye doctor. The doctor is cutting back to 1 drop per day! YAY!!!! We have to keep an eye on things (no pun intended) and if it starts coming back he'll either need to be seen before his 6 month check or we'll just have to increase back to the two drops per day. I'm super vigilant anyway about checking his eyes so I would notice something right away!!!!!
