Our 2.5 year old German shepherd / Bernese cross gets really loud, largely whining, but also can bark when we arrive to really exciting areas such as the park, off leash trails, friends houses, etc.

It only happens when she’s in the car and once she’s let out she back to normal. It seems like car reactivity, but not aggressive.

Has anyone experienced this or have ideas on how to resolve?

Yes. Mine has an unbelievable map in her head and recognises every road that leads somewhere fun.

I have her crate covered with a blanket (it's a very open design) and fans moving the air around in the crate. It works.

Yes. I have no solutions for you, she still does this after 3 years. Crating in the car helps a lot.

Oh yeah. My girls scream like banshees in the car. They are excitement screamers, and I’ve just learned to live with it.

Oh yes, it's the anticipation, getting to a 'fun' place.

Yes to all, especially the road map - the screaming really begins when we turn down the road to Grandma’s house, or the twisty road to the cottage!
