I have been working with Milly and Sasha as a pair, both are approx 24 month and have been in our home over the last three months, they have learned the following commands:

sitz
foos or fuss (on/off leash)
bleib
platz
hier
bring
hopp
voraus
box
aus (sometimes a struggle with Milly who thinks she's Schutzhund)

Having trouble with gib laut on both.

So what skill set/command should be taught next? I should say I mainly just training for my and the dog's recreation with no definate purpose in mind but just keeping them busy and focused.

What I've started working on and enforcing is the concept that sit (sitz), down (platz) and stand mean STAY in that position until release or commanded to do something else. I'm told there is no real "stay" in SchH and that this is expected. Along with that, we have been practicing moving commands. For example, I have Kenya in heel at a jogging pace and I say Halt!, which is her stand-stay command, and she is expected to immediately stop and stay in standing position while I keep on jogging. I do not pause, give any hand signal, or look at her. We do the same for the platz and sitz.

I wish I'd started on it sooner! My problem is that Kenya often offers a sit or a down as a default, trying to earn a treat. There are many times I need her JUST to stop, but not necessarily sit. I've been working a lot on the "halt" so that the stand-stay will hopefully become the default behavior.

We're also working on moving backwards and pivoting left.
