OK dog is new to us, only 1 week in the house at the time of the incident.
He is about 9 years old. My in-laws come over for drinks and snacks, and they brought a ball chew toy. Kyle (neutered male GSD) instantly loved it and my 12 yr. old son played with him for quite a while with it. Later my 16 yr. old son thought he was playing with him, but Kyle snapped at him when he took the ball from him and got his hand and the ball at the same time. It wasn't malicious and the dog was a little freaked out by the incident. I was about to say something to my son just before it happened. I got up quickly, made the dog go lay in the corner (we were on the deck outside) and took the toy from him.
I tried not to make a big deal of it, and his wound healed quickly. Long scratch on the back of his hand, and a small puncture.
My 12 yr. old simply has faster reflexes, and my 16 yr. old isn't really dog savvy.
How should I have handled this? Beating dogs isn't on my list of fun things to do.
The only aggressive thing this dog has done is to try and go after a kitten.
I was walking him and I had a little trouble controlling him. Something else is weird in that house so maybe it wasn't the kitten. That was a little disturbing, but the choke collar is on all the time outside now.
Thanks
Jim
