I was taking my husband's chocolate lab for a walk yesterday. Loki does not like some dogs and we are trying to rectify this. Some he is ok with and some not, but you can't really tell till they come face to face. We pass a yard where there is a woman and two young children with a Yorkshire Terrier (little). I am not worried, even though the leash is held by one of the children, because it is such a small dog and I am certain they have control. However, as soon as they see us, they come towards us with big grins on their faces. I hollered "No, you don't want to do this," and we kept walking and I am telling Loki "leave it." I didn't want to test Loki's socialization skills on a Yorkie! They keep coming and the little girl drops the leash. The little dog runs up to Loki, and I think it would have been ok, except this dog jumps on Loki's head and starts snarling at him. Loki is bristling up, and I said, "Get your dog." All three of them just stand there like they are frozen. I said, "Get your dog NOW!" Finally they did and there was no harm done, but I wonder what is wrong with people to let a little tiny dog run up to a big dog whose temperament they don't know? And then to ignore me when I tell them not a good idea??
