Not sure if this is the correct place to post this so Mods feel free to move where it needs to go.

Thanksgiving, we haven't eaten yet as our turkey didnt thaw fast enough the last couple days for us to have started this morning. Shelby and i went to go check the mail as we havent done it in a couple days. We as we're walking back home from the mailbox, some idiot steps out into his open garage with his little ankle biter terrier mix thing, see's us walking and minding out own business and tells the dog "go get em!" This little yipper yap comes flying down the driveway at us growling and barking and just generally being what we all expect from yipper yaps. Obnoxious little monster. Shelby is wagging her tail being a good girl despite the fact she doesnt like other dogs running up on her like that. This little terrorist proceeds to BITE her pretty hard on her leg and then proceeds to go for her face. Shelby, naturally reacted to protect herself. I pulled Shelby back and told her to stop, which she did, and punted the dog back up the driveway. The guy comes down the driveway to get the little beast saying how sorry he is for his dogs behavior. I exploded on him. Called base police and told them what happened. The little dog has been confiscated and deemed a hazard as it was the 2nd strike on him. Shelby has a vet appointment in the morning to look at her leg which has a couple bite marks on it. the MPs took down statements and got copies of the monsters vaccines records. I was soooooo ticked off. Shelby is not being blamed for anything, even the guy said his dog started it.

I'm glad Shelby stopped when i told her to. I didnt expect it. I know i would certainly have trouble stopping from being mean right back if someone attacked me but she did. She was very good. I just couldnt believe this guy sending a dog he knows isnt friendly to other dogs down at us like that! The dog was not on a leash but Shelby was so that was in my favor as well. JUST ARG! What is wrong with people? I'm still shaking i'm so mad. I just cant believe how stupid people can be sometimes. Shelby is not aggressive. She likes meeting other dogs. But NOT when they behave that way.

So what are the MP's going to do about the man? He did order his dog to attack you and your dog. Isn't that assault of some sort?
yeah the wife wasnt outside until a few minutes after the MPs showed up. I guess her husband has done this before hence the 2nd strike. She was so mad, you could almost see the smoke coming out of her ears! I've seen her walking the dog before and she's always got the dog on the leash and she's pretty diligent about letting other owners know he's not friendly with other dogs. I know i would beat the stuffing out of my husband if he EVER did anything like that. Riley can be walked offleash but the ONLY time it happens is when we're able to go hiking or the dog park or its late enough at night nobody else will be out. Beyond that, he's dog reactive outside because he's been attacked by other dogs a few times. I would be reactive too. he's got the mindset of i'm going to get you before you get me but i also kinda wanna meet you.
After reading the last posts I can see it is not the dog or wife's fault it is the husband's fault for doing that to the dog. That is so mean for him to do that because he does not like the dog. If they do get the dog back the wife definately should never leave the dog alone with her husband again.

he got multiple tickets. One for a dog being offleash without a fenced in area. one for a "free roaming dog on a military installation" and one for aggressive action. He has to appear at the judicial building on base in December. With the aggressive action ticket, its a mandatory pay grade drop and he'll lose half his pay for 3 months. the MP said the judge will most likely charge him with assault as well even i i dont file a charge for it. And they could very well get kicked off base housing because of this as well with it being the 2nd offense. I wont know if i'm needed at the judicial building until the end of next week.

I couldnt agree more. I'm not a big fan of my husband's dog Riley. he likes to whine when he doesnt get his way. he just generally gets on my nerves but i would NEVER do anything to get him into trouble or get him taken away. Hubby doesnt care too much for my cats but he loves me and they stay. He didnt care too much for Zena when she bit him her first day after we brought her home but because i loved her and she was good with proper introductions and i felt safer with her around, she stayed. I also think part of the problem was they had guests over for the holiday so the wife was playing hostess and her husband took advantage of that. I think he was hoping to take the dog out and it run off but then we were walking by so he jumped on that chance. I would NEVER send my dogs after someone. If they were trained working dogs and they were after a guy who chose to run rather than give up, then yeah, you send the dog but that should be the ONLY situation. I'm just disgusted with the whole situation and pretty much disgusted with the majority of the people around here who have pets and/or kids. I've met a couple people who were responsible and their pets were well trained and nice and their kids were polite and well behaved as well but others..... this night has been a perfect example.

what's a classic example of why you're not fond
of small dogs?? i hope your dog is ok. what an idiot neighbor.

thats a classic example of why i'm not a fan of little dogs. most people who have them this that is okay and its not! Yet another reason i dont like most people.

classic example is people who have small dogs generally dont bother to train them or do much with them because they dont think a little dog like that can cause any problems. Most of the people around here that have little dogs, the dogs are barely housetrained, they're nasty tempered little monsters. They're allowed to bark all the time and they're just generally your classic examples of ankle biters behaving badly. Konotashi's Ozzy is a little dog and he's well behaved. People like him because he's not the typical little yip yap. he's trained. most smaller dogs arent. Shelby is okay as of now. We'll know more at the vet tomorrow. I'm sure she'll probably get a rabies booster just to be safe and they'll probably shave the area she got bit to clean it better but we'll see. I'm glad Shelby stopped when i told her to though. She may be a chicken dog, but i'm pretty sure she would have caused some damage had she been allowed to.

Good that he was cited. I hope he does lose pay over this. At least that might make him think a bit before he does something like that again.

one can only hope. i'm thrilled he was cited. I would have thrown a royal fit had he not been.
Well after this incident i'm going to have to find my walking stick again and start carrying it again. so frustrating!!!
Just got home from Shelby's vet check. She cleared out fine but she's on antibiotics just in case and she did get a rabies booster like i thought she would. He didnt notice any swelling but he wrapped it good and tight so she cant lick at it and cause any further problems. He wrote a statement of care for me to show in case i get called to the courthouse. Vet says no nerve damage and no broken bones and as long as she's walking and not limping, he didnt want to put her on Rhymidal which makes me happy because she gets loopy lol. So Shelby is cleared, she's just not allowed to do any running for the next couple days. Has another checkup on tuesday to make sure all is still good.

Also came home to find a letter on my door from the guys wife. She's having the dog euthanized because this is the 2nd time this has happened and he's been getting aggressive with her kids. I think she may also be filing for divorce too. "The incident last night proved i can no longer trust my husband as promises made were broken and my dog has to pay the ultimate price as a result of his ignorance. Where there is no trust there is nothing and i'm sorry this happened. I've seen you walking your dogs and they're always so well behaved. I personally will pay for any expenses incurred on your part. I am truly sorry this happened and your dog was injured. Please forward copies of any bills to me directly at the following address; ... Again my apologies.

Sincerely,
Melinda XxXxxx

guess we'll see what happens.

While we have less idiots per square feet, we have other unique problems, like, people move out in the country and think that now the dog can just run, leash laws are only for city people, if they do not move out here, they give the dog to someone out in the country, and if they cannot find someone to give the dog to, they find a nice country road with woods around and DUMP the dog out there, expecting some kind hearted country bumpkin will take care of it.

There are currently two cats who think that my shed is their home. They are NOT my cats, I am NOT feeding them. I have two choices at this point, feed and vet them, or kill them. No inbetween, shelter will not take them.

They are driving my dogs nuts.

If I take my gun out there and kill them, everyone will hate me for it.

I wish city people would stop dropping their cats off in the country. I cannot kill them and I hope they will just go away if I do not feed them, but they have been there weeks!
AMEN! I have the same problem where I live. I try to walk my dog in my "neighborhood" but there are 5 dogs in a 3 mile trip that are never tied and always come running onto the road after us, they aren't mean but how is anyone supposed to know that? (I found out the hard way lol) People please keep your dogs in the house or tied somewhere cause when I blast one on my way home from work with the truck cause he came screaming across the road, it's YOUR fault not mine. Also, what's with the dogs tied to a dog house? I don't get that? Why have a dog? Why feed an extra mouth if you can't get anything out of it? To each his own I know but I just don't get it?
That was really decent of the lady. What an A%$ hole that hubby is. Those poor kids, they lose their dog and their dad is a fine specimen of a man (NOT)
Perhaps this incident has done the woman a favor and helped her make a decision she was putting off-re her relationship with her hubby. If he can be like that with a dog I hate think what he would be like with a kid, especially if that kid was being difficult as most kids can be from time to time. I really think, you can tell a lot about a persons personality by the way they treat animals. That little dog didn't stand a chance with this guy as his owner, it actually saddens me to think he/she lost it's life because his fate was in its idiot owners hands.
Thank goodness your dog is going to be okay. :)
Wow! What did he expect the dog to do when he said go get um! He wanted that dog to get in trouble. People are idiots.
When we tell Lola to "get [insert name here]", it just means to go and find them, if it's the hubby or somebody she knows really well, she'll jump up next to them and start licked their face, or just sit in front of them and start whining/barking like, 'hey you, mom wants you'. My hubby was using this with my cousin (12 years old) the other day, Lola would herd (pushed him with her head back, no nipping) him back to my aunt and uncle...fastest that he ever listened to come to his parents when they asked!
Glad that your pup is okay, and hopefully you won't have trouble getting them to pay the vet bills.
we'll tell our dogs to "go get em!" when they're playing with eachother. They'll bound over all puppy like and the wrestling matches continue. We NEVER send them after people the way this guy did. Ever. And the dogs approach was anything but friendly. he was snarling and barking and there was nothing nice about it. the fact he attacked my adult shepherd with the obvious intent to do harm and the fact he did do harm... i could strangle that guy!
I tell Molly & Tanner to "go get em" when they are playing with each other. Both are pretty smart when it comes to figuring out what and who not to chase.
Wow, what a piece of work! Please tell me he is NOT one of our military's finest!!! I feel sorry for the wife, what the heck did the guy think the dog would do? What if you got really hurt in this attack. I am glad you and Shelby are ok and it sounds like this guy is going to get into some real trouble.
that's a large assertion on your part. there's trained and socialized small dogs. i do think there's more people with untrained dogs than there are people with trained dogs.

sadly he is. i'm actually looking into getting a dressage whip to carry with me from now on because its lighter to carry and will sting enough to distract. I'm glad it was a smaller dog instead of one of the boxers from the opposite direction. those boxers are a menace. I'm glad he's getting into serious trouble for his behavior. Maybe he'll learn to be more intelligent next time.... if there is a next time.

i know there are people who train their little dogs but they are few and far between. and yes there are more people with untrained dogs than with trained dogs. My inlaws falling into the catagory of not training their dogs.
I think that the point is that it's considered "acceptable" and "normal" for small dogs to behave this way. People will complain about a larger dog behaving obnoxiously, but a small dog is given a pass. People even think it's cute and funny for them to growl, bite, and charge - especially if the dog they are going after is 5X their size.
