Not sure if this is the correct place to post this so Mods feel free to move where it needs to go.

Thanksgiving, we haven't eaten yet as our turkey didnt thaw fast enough the last couple days for us to have started this morning. Shelby and i went to go check the mail as we havent done it in a couple days. We as we're walking back home from the mailbox, some idiot steps out into his open garage with his little ankle biter terrier mix thing, see's us walking and minding out own business and tells the dog "go get em!" This little yipper yap comes flying down the driveway at us growling and barking and just generally being what we all expect from yipper yaps. Obnoxious little monster. Shelby is wagging her tail being a good girl despite the fact she doesnt like other dogs running up on her like that. This little terrorist proceeds to BITE her pretty hard on her leg and then proceeds to go for her face. Shelby, naturally reacted to protect herself. I pulled Shelby back and told her to stop, which she did, and punted the dog back up the driveway. The guy comes down the driveway to get the little beast saying how sorry he is for his dogs behavior. I exploded on him. Called base police and told them what happened. The little dog has been confiscated and deemed a hazard as it was the 2nd strike on him. Shelby has a vet appointment in the morning to look at her leg which has a couple bite marks on it. the MPs took down statements and got copies of the monsters vaccines records. I was soooooo ticked off. Shelby is not being blamed for anything, even the guy said his dog started it.

I'm glad Shelby stopped when i told her to. I didnt expect it. I know i would certainly have trouble stopping from being mean right back if someone attacked me but she did. She was very good. I just couldnt believe this guy sending a dog he knows isnt friendly to other dogs down at us like that! The dog was not on a leash but Shelby was so that was in my favor as well. JUST ARG! What is wrong with people? I'm still shaking i'm so mad. I just cant believe how stupid people can be sometimes. Shelby is not aggressive. She likes meeting other dogs. But NOT when they behave that way.

I'm so glad that Shelby didn't fight back and I am so sorry that happened!! Why on earth would the man tell his dog to "go get um" if this was the dogs 2nd strike. Is he trying to get his dog put down??? Seriously that is crazy!!

i dont know. best i can figure is the dog belongs to his wife and he cant stand him. maybe he is trying to get the dog in enough trouble that he does have to be euthanized but still! You should have seen his wife hit him. She was livid! almost wish i'd been wearing my steel toe boots when that little dog got kicked back. I have absolutely no problem drop kicking another dog if it keeps mine safe(er). I am just so mad! my husband wants to go down the street and talk to them and ask that they pay the vet bill tomorrow and any other possible bills. I may just let him!

i agree they should but we'll see what happens. Shelby is currently laying on the couch snoozing it up with a bandage taped around her leg. She's very proud of her "war" wound lol.

if it had been Zena instead of Shelby there's no telling what would have happened. The little dog probably would have gotten hurt if he persisted in attacking and the guy would have gotten snapped at for coming at me. Zena didnt care for men coming anywhere near me outside of the house which was perfectly fine with me. I would have been able to control her but you better believe she would have made sure she stayed between me and anyone else.

Poor Shelby, and I feel bad for the little dog too for being in the hands of such a stupid owner. If Shelby wasn't such a well-behaved dog, that dog could have been ripped to shreds. Unfortunately, it'll probably end up being euthanized anyway. I wish people didn't think that saying 'go get 'em' was funny. Dog fights are never funny.

I hope they pay for the vet bills!

Sometimes I'm really glad we live in the country. Less idiots per square mile. :)

would be nice!!!! we're hoping to buy some property back home in the next couple years and build our house on it so we have the space and dont have to deal with all this nonsense. I cant stand irresponsible owners, especially around here!

Not the little dog's fault. Too bad the MPs did not come and take the idiot away. Less idiots would mean less problems with dogs.

this is true. i think the MPs figured it was best to leave him with his wife. She was pretty pissed at him. less idiots would definitely mean less problems with dogs for sure. I feel for the wife. Her husband is an idiot and HER dog was taken away. He's in quarentine for the next 10 days until they decide what to do with him. I dont think he'll make it though. he tried to bite one of the MPs as they were putting him in the carrier in the car.

While we have less idiots per square feet, we have other unique problems, like, people move out in the country and think that now the dog can just run, leash laws are only for city people, if they do not move out here, they give the dog to someone out in the country, and if they cannot find someone to give the dog to, they find a nice country road with woods around and DUMP the dog out there, expecting some kind hearted country bumpkin will take care of it.

There are currently two cats who think that my shed is their home. They are NOT my cats, I am NOT feeding them. I have two choices at this point, feed and vet them, or kill them. No inbetween, shelter will not take them.

They are driving my dogs nuts.

If I take my gun out there and kill them, everyone will hate me for it.

I wish city people would stop dropping their cats off in the country. I cannot kill them and I hope they will just go away if I do not feed them, but they have been there weeks!

What a nasty little dog! I'm happy to hear that the MP's followed thru on your complaint. So often people get laughed at when a large dog is harassed by an ankle bitter.

I was forced to kick a dog many years ago. This little bitch kept going after Tasha every time we walked out the gate. One day I had enough and kicked her down a hill. I called A/C and when they came to pick her up another neighbor begged them to leave her alone. I told the neighbor I was the one who had called and why. Shortly after I never saw the dog again ... maybe someone else called A/C?

And yes, I felt guilt, even feel guilty today, for kicking it ... it should have been the owner.

If that woman loved her little dog so much she should not allow it to run free. The husband is at fault just as much as the dog and wife. I have one little dog and I don't ever tell him to go get 'em. Mine is not an ankle biter. It is the owner's responsibility to control their dogs big and small. That little dog better be glad your dog is disciplined and non aggressive. They absolutely should pay the entire vet bill and be required to keep the dog contained at all times. You have every right to be mad. I am glad she is going to be o.k.

I'm glad the MPs actually responded but the minute you mention dog attack, whether it was on a human or another dog, they're usually all over it because of previous problems. I wish i'd kicked the owner too but the dog was closer and the one doing the biting on Shelby lol.

The DOG is at no fault, it cannot control what its owners do to it or for it, the dog was only acting as it was taught. The way I read it the wife wasn't there, so how do you know things would not have been different had she been there? She cannot control what her husband does whens he is not around.

Glad everything ended up ok, sorry that happened.

Selzer that sucks. I'm a cat/dog person. I feed the strays around here when i can because i dont like seeing them suffer or getting beat up by another cat for a mouse. I dont blame you for being annoyed about it though. Can be pretty aggravating.

yeah the wife wasnt outside until a few minutes after the MPs showed up. I guess her husband has done this before hence the 2nd strike. She was so mad, you could almost see the smoke coming out of her ears! I've seen her walking the dog before and she's always got the dog on the leash and she's pretty diligent about letting other owners know he's not friendly with other dogs. I know i would beat the stuffing out of my husband if he EVER did anything like that. Riley can be walked offleash but the ONLY time it happens is when we're able to go hiking or the dog park or its late enough at night nobody else will be out. Beyond that, he's dog reactive outside because he's been attacked by other dogs a few times. I would be reactive too. he's got the mindset of i'm going to get you before you get me but i also kinda wanna meet you.

Ya, sadly unless everyone is on the same page on what to do how to treat and how to train the dog, it doesn't do much good for the dog :/

I would be extremely irate at my husband....
