What is it with water?

Why does she have to make a huge mess when drinking from her water bowl?

She always leaves a trail of water from the kitchen, lol. Today I went in there and almost the entire floor was a puddle.

Do they just suck up water into their mouths then have fun

letting it fall out of their mouths all over the place? I don't get it, lol.

Does anyone else have this issue?

Absolutely. My girl is a walking water fountain. She's even worse when she's playing and goes to "refill" from the bowl, usually before climbing into DH's lap for some love, covering him in water!

YES!! Ava does the same exact thing! And she especially loves to do this after I've cleaned the floors!

Kelso slops water everywhere. Allie, fortunately is neat

, unless we are outside, she uses the water bowl as a swimming pool when it is hot..literally tries to doggy paddle in it..glad she doesnt do that in the house

And I thought Dacota was the only GSD who did this! She loves to submerge her head in her water bucket(yes a bucket-she goes through sooo much water) and then comes running over to me happily. Especially on the really hot days. She also loves to put her front paws in the water.

Onyx is a messy drinker. I think she just has no time to stay at the bowl to lap it up, she has too much to do!

We have a sloppy girl too! We have a big bucket of water for them that we only fill up a little each time to help with the water mess... we also have a rug under it to try to catch some of it... Keva can run all the way across the room and still have water running out of her mouth... lol... and I swear she's rubbing of on Patton he used to be so neat- but he's getting to be quite the dripper too... ugh!

When Diesel is worked up (after training, or especially when we first got him) he goes so nuts with the water that the top of his head will be wet after getting a drink. Lowen, she practically lifts her pinky when she drinks spilling nothing.

Thorai is like ZeusGSD's Lowen, he is so neat, I think he really tries not to make a mess with the water.

Chara, dives right in! She does everything with such gusto including creating a lake in the kitchen!

I even keep a towel under the bowl, lol. I think she holds it in her mouth and walks off, dribbling it everywhere.

I am going to get a small wading pool and see how she likes that.

My DH says both of our dogs came without gaskets. I hope any neat freaks are aware of this "characteristic". I'd need a small wading pool in the kitchen. But I figure it's a small price to pay for the greatest dogs in the world.

So it's not just Leela after all! It seems like she stores water like a chipmunk stores nuts. She also loves to dunk her squeaky ball and then run over and give you bath with it. lol

I always say that gsds like to share everything with their favorite pack members...even the water they just drank!

My Massie was like this and I have to run around after Rafi with a towel because I have wood floors. I have no idea how he can take a drink in the kitchen and leave a trail all the way to the livingroom!

Oh yes! Add Lexi to this list! She slops water everywhere. Not to mention dropping toys/bones in the water, gets a drink, then gets toy out of water to leave trails everywhere. LOL!

I have a towel under the bowl and another bath towel by the bowl to mop up the puddles. I have given up just walking around with socks on because they were always getting wet. I'm glad to know that I do not suffer alone!

I too thought we had the only GSD that left puddles everywhere in the kitchen, floors and let me tell you that tile is like an ice rink when wet so I've been wearing socks more ( of course I then have wet socks ) but its better than falling on my hiney. We also have a carpet under his water bowl, I am sure it helps some but still. LOL.
