Well, this weekend we had some major breakthroughs, so wanted to share. In addition to Shadow, my 16 week old pup, I also have a 7 yr old daughter and 5 year old son who dote on their "baby brother". I was cleaning the kitchen on Saturday morning when I hear my daughter screaming that Shadow had gotten out the front door. We live on a busy street, and I took off running to get outside. No sign of Shadow anywhere, and Christina was crying so hard she wasn't making any sense. I stood on the end of my driveway and just called "Shadow come!!" As loud as I could. Wouldn't you know it, from about 4 doors down, my little pup comes racing home as fast as his legs could carry him. The kids and I were both relieved, and that little guy got SUCH big hugs. My kids learned the importance of closing the door behind them the hard way, but SHADOW CAME BACK WHEN CALLED
.
Then on Sunday, we had a playdate with Jesse. His people, Lauralie and Steve came with him. The two guys played so good together, it was a joy to see. I also enjoyed being able to talk with someone who understood what I meant when I say people will avoid me on the walking paths, just because I have a GSD. (even though he's still small) I was also very impressed with how well behaved Jesse was with the kids, considering he's not around them very much. Well, after 2.5 hrs of the dogs having a grand old time, Shadow decided to take a stroll. The back of my yard isn't properly fenced, which usually isn't a problem because we NEVER let Shadow outside on his own, and when we are outside, he's normally having so much fun he doesn't want to roam. Well, guess he decided to show Jesse the neighborhood, because before we know it, their off through the fence. My neighbors were sitting on their back porch enjoying a bbq dinner, and before they know it, two GSD pups are running towards them, with Lauralie and I not too far behind. Then, to add insult to injury, Shadow decides to relieve himself on their lawn. So after apologizing to them and asking Lauralie for a plastic bag, the boys were taken back through the fence. Luckily, I have good neighbors.
Thanks again Lauralie, it was great fun meeting you, and I hope the boys can continue to be good friends.
