Planned on grilling three steaks for my DH, daughter and myself yesterday for his birthday...set the steaks out on the counter to get them seasoned, etc....went out to get the grill and grill starter ready....came back in...two steaks left....and Jackson in the corner chewing on a bone....the steak bone from the third steak....

I didn't even think about him doing something like that...but boy was he happy...and a lesson learned for me.

been there, done that. Luther was such a thief, I couldn't even walk away from the grill or dinner would be gone - and not just one!

Well, when I put the remaining two steaks on the grill Jackson looked like he was trying to figure out how to get at them too....and he fell asleep with the steakbone sticking out of his mouth.
I have sympathy for you, We had chicken a few nights ago, I got up to use the bathroom, and when I came back, Apollo jumped up and grabbed it right off my plate!! I was so mad, but Apollo was so very happy.

My DH would have blown a gasket if Brady ever did that. My lab would definately do that she counter surfs, Brady knows he always gets something if he lays there while I am preparing food.

You know it must of smelt yummy and he wanted one for himself

Good grief....this morning DH poured himself a bowl of cereal...set down on his desk, went back to the kitchen to get his coffee...Jackson came walking out of the office, head down, and went straight to his crate...

The bowl was licked clean...he likes Frosted Flakes.

My son made a pb & toast this morning and turned to get some milk from the fridge and cheyenne just stood up and snatched it from the table and walked to her crate. mmm toast and peanut butter early in the morning..
and we have to ask ourselves....why don't we get mad when they do it?
OH MY GOD! I am so sorry but I am laughing hysterically
This thread is worthless without the sleeping with the steakbone picture or "innocent" faces in their crate pictures
THANK GOODNESS Gracie has never stolen stuff off the counter. Not sure how we've been so lucky, there by the grace of God...... Also, I can leave a half eaten anything on the table next to the couch and it stays there. No idea how or why and I'm not saying she's perfect but this isn't one of her bad habits (maybe I'd prefer this than poo eating and grass eating and bug eating......)

I love it!!! My Heidi Girl was a little sneak.......LOL She would open the fridge, steal ham from the deli tray, AND CLOSE the FRIDGE, Hide the evidence........it would just be gone! She even stole a frozen steak and hid it in the couch!
I'm sorry but I'm laughing while reading this thread too.

I'm also getting hungry. I'm going to get a peanut butter toast with a glass of milk. LOL. I'm going to keep it away from Elmo too!
Well now you know......Jackson likes his steaks rare!!

My Mom adopted a GSD mix from the pound in April. She's had GSDs for many years and her old guy died last December, so she's been without a dog for a few months. She's never had a dog that really counter-surfs.

Well, Edgrrr has been a new experience for her! He's probably 2 years old or so, is long-legged and extremely athletic (definition: jumps like a bunny) and he not only takes anything he can find from the counter, but gets into the SINK and takes out peelings and scraps that are left in the sink (to put down the disposal later). Mom came in one day and Eddie was munching on cantelope rinds! She's firmly convinced that he lived off of garbage when he was a stray and thinks that anything left alone for a second must be fair game (I think she just likes to make excuses for him .. *L*).

So Mom has learned not to leave anything out. See, you CAN teach an old dog new tricks! (Mom just turned 83 .. *LOL*).

OMG....I've got to get a handle on him...made my little girl a hot chicken sandwich, left it on the counter and yelled it was ready...took Jackson out...thought she got it...brought him back in...went straight for the counter and ate half that sandwich before I could get "leave it!" out of my mouth.

He had a time out and I'm not ever trusting ANYTHING left on the counter
