I just got back from Bill Kulla's house. I put a deposit on a pup out of his J litter! I think I might just die from excitement! This is going to be a long couple of months!

Congrats on taking the plunge. I have a Kway/Kenna puppy from last year and he's the greatest thing on four feet! He just got his first two legs towards his CD this weekend and will be going for his BH next month, hopefully.

I saw Arrek in action at our club's bite seminar in May and he's very impressive.

Get ready for a little land shark

how i remember those months. they seem to take forever to pass. this is a good time to go out and buy all of puppy/dog needs. we brought our boy home and realized we didn't have any toys for him so out to Pet Value we go. i remember carrying my 17 lb. boy around the store. i didn't let him walk around the store because he only had his first shots. did you name your puppy yet and is it a male or female?? good luck with the new pup. so, you think you're excited now wait untill puppy comes home. good luck and congrads.

I'm getting a female, and she's not even born yet so I have to wait extra long!

She's due early August and will go home early October. I'm glad I have time to get things ready, but the wait is going to be hard!

Here are the parents:

And then the fun begins! I was on a waiting list for almost a year before I got my female. I would have been willing to wait twice as long for her, now that I know her. Good luck!

Not trying to be rude, because I really do not mean to be. For a pup from his kennel (or similar caliber kennel) what would one need to spend, aprox.? $$$, lower $$$$, higher$$$$? I'm hoping to add another GSD in the next few months/year & would really like to get the best quality I can afford. Even if it means waiting & saving a bit longer than anticipated

So, what are the absolute essentials that every shepherd puppy needs? I want to go and spend all my money spoiling her right this very second, but I should probably pace myself; afterall, she isn't even born yet! I already have a crate and the basic dog stuff, but what are the best toys and equipment that everyone uses?

A lot of people buy Kongs. I however don't anymore. I have had several dogs since Kongs were invented and exactly NONE of them have liked Kongs.

Siren likes her "Chilly Bone". (Got it at either Petco or Petsmart.) You get them wet and then freeze them. Some folks just use a wash cloth and do the same thing, then let the pup chew on it. I always end up with pups that would rather pull the strings out of the wash cloth one at a time and either eat them or leave them all over the carpet.

I thought about getting a "Cuz" since it seems that a LOT of dogs on the board have them and love them. But once I squeeked one at the store, I IMMEDIATELY changed my mind. If I had to listen to THAT squeeking I would LOOSE MY MIND.

If you are going to get things that squeek, I would squeek it about a dozen times as fast as you can FIRST. Because that is what MY pups like to do. Some sounds don't bother me, others....... I would rather stick bamboo shoots under my fingernails than listen to them.

Kong has some pull toys and puppy balls to put treats in my dogs have always loved. The Kong Frisbee is the best. The quality of the toys really do it for me. GSD's play hard and kongs hold up well.

Dante really didn't favor the Kong as a toy vs a treat dispenser until he was an adult.

Cuz.....Screwdriver to the squeeker makes them much nicer!! Shhhhhh don't tell Dante they're supposed to squeek
