Are there any vets that you NOVA'ers would (or wouldn't) recommend? Particularly around the general Fairfax/Springfield/Burke area

Mollie is due for her yearly shots and in July Brenna needs to get her hips done, though I might get the hips done elsewhere. A friend of mine recommended someone in MD who is supposed to be really experienced with the hip checks, that's too far away for a regular vet though.

Dr. John Lonham at Village Vet Clinic in Burke is fantastic with GSDs. He takes care of a lot of the K9s that work for Fairfax County.

Several of our volunteers who have dogs with problems that were difficult to diagnosis have changed over to Dr. Lonham and they are all thrilled with him.

I don't know anyone who has had hip x-rays done there, but everyone who has taken their dog to see him has raved about him.

There's a place in Southern MD called Tidewater vet hospital. I wouldn't reccommend them, only because I always felt like I was being rushed out, none of the Dr's seemed to take the time to explain anything to me, or anything. The vet I go to now is the Springfield Animal Hospital, in Springfield. And I haven't had any issues with them. They seem to really care. I just bring Roxy there for her regualr vet check ups.

Hometown Vet clinic in Alexiandria is a good place. Dr. Melanie Smith, former army vet, very good with working dogs.

Also, Alexandria Animal Hospital http://www.alexandriaanimalhospital.com/ is worth checking out.

And I hade Eyra's prelims for her hips done at the Regional Veterinary Referral Center in Springfield. They did a good job but I think they may a bit pricey..but their vets are excellent.
