I have had him for two weeks and I wanted to give him some time to get used to all the new stuff before I started throwing stuff at him. We have consistently worked with the cats and it is getting better. I get nervous and its me that is the problem. 99% of the time Midnite just walks away. I am getting really good at reading him and his face. One of the cats paws him very gently and he noses her and wags his tail. The two boy cats are the problem, one of them will kinda stay out of the way and the other just does what he wants. Once that cat gets off his high horse everything will be fine. Whatever happened to cats being afraid of dogs...LOL!! Today we went to the park early in the morning. I walked him and we ran into several families of geese and boy they were hissing. He ignored them for the most part and never barked at them, which is really big because he is more defensive in these situations. I stayed at the park until at least two dogs walked by. I stayed about 10 ft away from them with Midnite in a sit doing lots of leave its and watch me's...he did not react to either of them. He wanted to, but I was able to manage it. Then we went to the pet store. I did have a prong on him, but it wasn't his and it was to tight, so I wanted to get him a new one. A golden retriever was barking and lunging at Midnite and he completely ignored him, didn't even react a little, which threw me off quite a bit. A lady, I think she is a trainer at the store, helped me get a bigger prong and insisted we take the other one off(I wanted to wait until I left the store), well it was not on right and he decided that he was going to react to a dog and I had a hard time controlling him without that collar being on right..I was so mad at that lady:mad: So we got into the car and went to another pet store. Before I went in, I checked the prong and it was on completely wrong, I fixed it and we walked around the store for about 15 minutes. He seen the first dog and immediately sat, I treated him and praised him. Then as we were walking out, some kids were coming in, he immediately sat and let them pet him. Another dog was coming so I told the kids that they had to stand away from him. I put him into a sit, treated, and did the watch me thing...he kinda watched me, but was still focused on the dog, but did not bark and lunge. I then took him back to the other pet store and stood outside this time about 20 ft away from the door. We got through 4 dogs with lots of treats and praise. I will be going back every day until this dog does not react anymore. He got so many compliments today, he is just beautiful. We had a pretty successful day and I'm happy with even a little progress. He is such a good dog. He's just big and clumsy with no manners. He is learning to wait before he goes outside, before he gets his food, and he has the wait in the car when I open the door down pat really good. He has lots of potential and I'm happy he is part of our family. He loves doing obedience, even if its basic. He also loves to climb...he walks on the shelves at the pet store, he jumped on the building smelling something, and he almost tipped over one of those heavy garbage cans outside of the store...he is very nosy and must investigate everything. He is not afraid of anything or trying anything either. He hates his crate. He jumps in the air like a border collie with the flirt pole. I haven't got many pictures of him yet, because its hard to take pictures and work with him, but I will be getting more soon...
