My 7month old GSD has been diagnosed with severe UAP. My local vets were unsure and due to the delay in diagnosing we have now been told by a highly recommended surgeon that it is too late to operate and that there is nothing more that can be done. Has anyone had this happen to them. We are devastated. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have a 13 year old who at 1-2 years was diagnosed with elbow dysplasia (UAP )...he has plenty of old age ailments now... but he's led a pretty happy and active life.
As far as your pup goes 7 months seems really young IMO for this diagnosis because bones are still growing....further I'll say this.... what one vet sees when looking at x-rays MAY NOT be the same diagnosis the next vet makes...you didn't say what issues your pup is having-if he's limping did the vet rule out Pano.......whatever the case if I was in your shoes and had doubts at all ....I'd take him to see a orthopedic specialist OR contact a vet teaching college if there's one you can drive to...either option should be able to look at existing x-rays that have been done and give a second opinion....in my case we live in Virginia and over the years have had great experiences at NC State vet teaching college.
* I wanted to add Beau was diagnosed with moderate ED not severe....once again to me 7 months seems very young for the surgeon to say you waited too long ?? but I'm not a vet so I'll shut up
