Duece, almost 6 mon. jumps over everyone that comes over. He doesnt jump on any of us that he lives with only guests and we are having a real hard time breaking this. He is so strong now he hurts people. He has also started barking at everyone and everything. We have tried all kinds of things for this but nothing is working for us. any help on either of these issues would be great.

I agree with Dawn, keep him under your control and have the guests ignore him until he settles down. When he does relax PRAISE him like crazy and give him a reward, a distraction (favorite treat- bone).

Also, exercise him before you have people over - OB and a walk will do wonders!

Good Luck with your spring-loaded puppy!

Don't tell guests to knee him. All you need is one misplaced knee and he could get hurt and get a negative association with people coming over!

Put him on a leash when guests come over until you teach him a new routine. Here's mine: my dogs go lie on their beds and are quiet when guests come over and then the guests give them treats. If they don't hold up their end of the bargain, they don't get the treats!

Also, the best technique to stop jumping is to turn your body around. It's an attention getting technique. They stop doing it when they consistently get your back.
