Hi everyone,
First post here.

I'm feeling sorry for my big fellow. He's absolutely miserable in the summertime. His coat is incredibly thick, as with other German Shepherds. In previous years, I've trimmed (not shaved) him, but I've heard from a few sources that it is actually better to leave Shepherds alone. Supposedly they have their own "cooling system" with the way their fur is. Not sure if I believe that. Should I trim his fur back or not?

Thanks.

Don't trim. Generally you create more problems than you solve. What you do want to make sure of though is that you are brushing regularly to get any dead or loose hair in the undercoat out. A good scrubby bath with a Zoom Groom and a forced air dryer will help.

I give my gs a bath once a month the reason for this is to cool him down and loosen his hair so I can brush out his undercoat to make him a little cooler during the summer months. He loves his baths!

What kind of brushing do you do? How often?

Could you post a picture of his coat?

EDIT - just realized this is a month old, so my guess is the OP is probably not coming back...
