Hi there - the breeder we purchased our pup (pick up next Tuesday) from has been feeding the pups Wholesomes Sportmix (Fish Meal & Rice Formula) which is not puppy food. I've always had rescues growing up and this is my first time raising a dog from puppyhood, so I did my homework. After some research, my husband and I decided on Fromm LBPF but I'm a little apprehensive to change food. An AKC article I read suggested waiting two weeks after bringing her home and slowly integrating new food. I'm wondering if there's any stipulation in our case since she was not being fed puppyfood from the beginning?

Any tips are welcome, thank you in advance!

Changing food abruptly for a puppy often results in some GI upset and loose stools. Stress, like being yanked away from your mom and littermates and introduced to a completely new enviromment with a new set of humans, can also cause GI upset and loose stools. That's the reason for waiting 2 weeks before switching before introducing new types of food. It's best to let the puppy get settled for a couple weeks, then gradually introduce the new food, mixing it in with the current food in slowly increasing amounts. It just makes it easier on your puppy.

Lots of people never use puppy food, But anytime you switch food it's best, if possible, to introduce it slowly.

also, if the food is decent, there is actually no reason to feed puppyfood. I stopped using it years ago. A good all life stages food is fine
