Shaeffer (11) just had a splenectomy and we have a script for Tramadol. Any opinions on this before I order it? Are there other OTC options? I need to get it within 4 hours.Thanks.

Tramadol is a lower level narcotic. You aren't going to find anything even close to that OTC for pain. I would get it and give it to him as needed.

Given the severity of the surgery, I wouldn't screw around. I would give him the pain killer.

I've had to use Tramadol for my dog and it was fine - no side effects and it did seem to help. Good luck!

I used it on my female GSD and she did well. My male GSD mix got looped on it and was not tolerant until the end, when apparently he had enough discomfort to absorb and deal with it - then he was fine with it. Take care.

tramadol is a really good med, definitely get it filled. You can lower the dosage if needed but I wouldn't avoid using it unless the dog didn't tolerate it. My girl Tessa was on it after breaking her leg recently, but we dropped the dosage quickly and then went off of it because she wasn't in enough pain and kept trying to play and do too much!
