I thought it would be interesting if folks shared their daily, weekly, monthly training schedules, along with what they are focusing on. This would be helpful I think to experienced and new handlers, as well as people curious about how much work it entails.

Currently for me I have a 4 day 10 hour work week so I do obedience in the morning because Hera can come to the shop with me and we have it to ourselves from 6am-8am. Then in the evenings if we have a hider we work airscent problems for 1-2 hours. Friday through sunday we do as many airscent problems as we can get hiders and do some obedience training in town with distraction. We are focusing mostly on directional training as this is our biggest hurdle to overcome for our teams obedience test, but we do a bunch of general obedience stuff.

Monthly we travel to attend our teams weekly workout but we usually have 2-3 additional training sessions in addition to the team work out, we meet up with as many as the other handles as have time while we are there.

I estimate our general airscent training sessions last about 2 hours, 1/2 hour on each end for brief/debrief and about an hour of search time.

I hope others want to share and I look forward to hearing what you are up to

Thanks

joe and Hera

I don't have a training schedule per say, I work with them through out the day and if they are having a particular issue I may go work them in that area a few times a day.

My wife and I are home all day (work from home)

When I'm trying to address an issue or practice something specific I probably only do about 3-5 5-10 minute sessions a day

Other then that..currently we are attending group classes every Saturday (1 hour)

In general I try to stick with at least a minimum 4 hours a week per standard expectations but he is already certified and operational and I did a lot more to get there. HRD-only dog

Team Training. Two saturdays a month for 6 hours each time and two Tuesdays for 2 hours eact thime
Home Training. Mostly obedience about 20 min/day then every other day some kind of scent work, not blind
Teammate training - try to get together once or twice a week to train for 3-4 hours.

Our training schedule is a disaster. We just started HRD only but it was about the same before that.

Obedience sporadically throughout the day approx 20-30 minutes, we had been doing an hour a week formally as well to keep him on top of things but the season ended.

Team Training 20 minutes per dog 2-3 times a month (I said it was a disaster didn't I?)

We have team training every Sunday except the first weekend of the month and we usually train for 6-7 hours.

I am getting ready to certify for HR so we also try to get some time in every other Saturday for a few hours and I try to get additional time in during the week, at least one night, with some team mates for 3 hours or so.

Will also start my USAR dog on wilderness search in the near future so I am sure that will add a few more hours/nights during the week to my training schedule.
