Timber had a first today. Excitement or Handler Aggression???

Timber just turned 5 months old today. I was standing talking to a friend when Timber started to bark at another dog behind a fence. He really wanted to go over there, but I wouldnt let him. So, he sad down by me and continued to yap, yap, yap. I know I should ignore this (or so Ive been told) but because I was trying to talk, I put my finger down by his nose and told him to hush. He looked up at me and then to my finger and started showing his teeth while he was yapping.
That kinda freaked me out. I WASNT scared...I was just thinking "oh great! how do I handle this"? I hope the teeth display might have been out of excitement.
What do you think? Excitement or handler aggression?

sounds like frustration with some back talk. keep an eye on further reactions though.
My first dog, an Aussie, would always bark and bite at a finger, if pointed at him. Never was an issue, never turned into one. Kind of funney actually (but then my sense of humor is a bit warped:) )

Agree with KZoppa. I have found it necessary to pin(alpha roll) my dog on occasions when the back talk was more than I want. That seems to be effective for a pretty long period of time and becomes less necessary as the dog matures and learns her place.
Having said that, she is still a spoiled brat.
