Hi There!
Yesterday, the first time since we have got him (He is 3.5 months old), we took thunder to the local GS Club for puppy socialization. When he got there, all the big dogs that were in the cars, were barking and he just freaked out. He has been around quite a few people, but not many dogs, for various unavoidable reasons. He got quite frightened jumping all over the place in fright. We got him to the club house, where there was a 5 month old, and about 10 people, and he went completely crazy, I mean seriously mental! He wouldn't calm down no matter what I tried, and this old guy came over and said "i've seen this before, I'll be back in 2 minutes" comes back with his 8 week old puppy, they touched noses, and he was golden from that very instant. Like someone had flicked a switch with him. He was wary around the big dogs until the president came over with his MONSTER who was the most docile animal I've ever met.
We did some structured socialization and then obedience. He was amazing at the obstacle course. He handled the weaving and the 3 tunnels perfectly the first time, even the collapsed one which ALL the other dogs wouldn't go NEAR, we went through no problems. Was quite funny because the third time, its like someone cut his power and he just laid down in the last tunnel and I had to crawl in and carry him out. He slept 3 hours from the moment he got home, woke for 10 minutes, slept another 2 hours and then seemed mostly back to normal. He got his first cannon bone yesterday which he attacked for 2 hours and then went to sleep for the night. A tired puppy is a good puppy!
All in all we were really happy with the club, its members, and esp our special lad Thunder. We have 3 classes a week now, hoping we can make up for lost time. If only I could get him to stop barking at the cats!
