Hi all

I had my dog xrayed, i have no clue about this and was not aware that i was not going to get the results straight away.

I still have to send them off to get reviewed, so was looking for peoples opinions on what they look like, i know it is probably not the best way to go about it, but i need something to go off until i get something back.

Cheers

I can't read elbow xrays, so cant help you there, but in the first one, is that massy looking stuff elbow callous? Just curious.

The hips, not an expert either, the one on my left looks a little off, but it may the positioning? Looks like the positioning is pushed up some??

I don't think they look terrible at all, I've seen far worse,,my opinion for what it's worth, and again no expert, they don't look bad to me, maybe not as rounded as they should be..I'm sure others with far more experience than I will chime in

Elbows are still a mystery to me as well....unless they are really really bad and obvious....I thought callus on the first one because it was outside the skin obviously....is this an older dog???

I can see obviously terrible hips fine and obviously great ones...these look OK to me, positioning is not straight...but there are decent sockets/coverage with the left being much better than the right, femoral heads not the nicest shape .....so not sure if they would go Fair or ??? I am a bit ambivalent about these, and it could be more due to the lack of correctness in position on the right....

The pelvis being tipped does make them much harder to read. I would like the right elbow to look cleaner, but always hard to know what OFA will say.

I'm like Wolfstraum, I can tell horrible hips and fantastic hips but all the ones in the middle (or with a bit crooked xray) are a bit harder.

I agree they look ok!

I think the OP's dog is 15-16 months old.

I did some "post investigating." :)

I'm not great at reading elbows. It's been a while since we went to the ortho speacialst, but from memeory I think she said there are 3 kinds of ED. Two of them they can see in xray and they look for how the "beaks" are connecting the bones. My dog was fine in that aspect. The third kind has to do with cartridge and it does not show in xrays.

Thanks for the replies all.

She is 27 months, I emailed the same x rays to a specialists here she said they look fairly good and would likely get one rating down from excellent

Couple of comments from the specialist

"
Her hips and elbows are fairly good. The hips - the right hip is just slightly shallow and just slightly loose - nothing to worry about, the left hip has a very slight thickening of the cranial acetabular edge, again nothing to worry about, her elbows are normal. There is a calcinosis ( calcium deposit next to one elbow - again not an issue, won't cause any lameness etc.
Her hips would probably score around 6-8 on the right and 4-5 on the left. The pass mark for the "A" stamp is a maximum of 8 points in total with no more than 3 points in any one area. Certainly would not be concerned about either of her hips or elbows as a long term issue,"

"She would rate 1 down from excellent, you do not ned to limit her exercise , however treadmill can be rather dangerous unless watched closely best if you take her running - good for both of you! Glucosamine and fish oil are never wasted, won't do any harm, can help, "
